Not here. Literally every family dad has a full size, even the ones who aren't old, fat and ride Harleys

This should be our response to everyone who says the Tundra is dated:

"Compared to other pickups, Tundra is noteworthy because it has not undergone a redesign since 2007. Toyota started out great and continued perfecting it ever since. Among half-ton pickups, it’s easily your best bet for reliability."

Bought mine when I was 44. Driving and owned Toyota all my life. I bought it because it felt like a truck should feel. The only bells and whistles I need are 4x4 and the tow package. I like ram too but definitely prefer Tundra over anything else.

I totally agree. We don't need to bash any other brand on this site...the numbers speak for themselves.

While I like my tundra, in all honesty one of the best trucks I ever owned was a 1994 dodge ram 1500, 318 v8, auto. Aside for eating a water pump every 50,000 miles it truly was trouble free.

I had from 94-02 and wish I had not traded in for the 02 model.

The 07 model I got was hands down better than the 02 other than the gremlin of every now and then not starting. Crank and crank, nada. Turn the key off, try it again and bam start right up. Dealership never could figure that one out.
The 2011 I had needed a torque convertor a month in, other than that it was a good one, but got traded in for a 2013 tundra, and here we are.

Reliability and resale. My 2008 with 200k miles still drove like it did new. If you don’t haul anything over 10k lbs daily then I’d say Toyota’s are like diesels without the hassle of a Diesel engine maintenance: def fluid, etc... you can rack up a shit ton of miles and they hold their value. Mileage sucks and tech lags, but the 2018 I got with safety sense etc... is reliable and works. Besides I like knobs better for HVAC. The Ram U connect is a PIA. I’m 38 and feel like 18 with my pedal commander on sport plus +4 no Fs given

Funny you post this. My brother just admitted to me yesterday the 2011 Ram he bought was the biggest mistake he’s made buying cars. He replace the motor at 95k due to the common lifter issue, and said it’s just falling apart.

Plus I think Rams are just plain fugly trucks.

My youngest brothers ram with the hemi is having lifter issues, around the same mileage. At one time the 5.7 hemi was considered almost bullet proof.

Damn, sorry to hear that. The prognosis is not good, he should get it looked at ASAP. From what I’m told, you don’t always have to replace the motor, only if enough of the camshaft wears off and damages other parts of the engine.

When Toyota bought back my 2018 tundra. The lady in charge of the buyback for Toyota said the most bought back vehicles she sees every week is dodge/Chrysler vehicles hands down.

In this case driving it until it dies might be the best option - I wouldn’t spend the coin to fix it.

I pulled up to one of the local convenience stores in my GX where some of my old buddies were all shootin the shit amongst their coveted Rams. Stopped to say hi and got hit with “why don’t you try out one of the Rams or Jeep’s?” I said, “Same reason I don’t try gay shit, I don’t like getting fucked.” Then I had to explain why I just sold my Tundra back to the dealer. $$$$$

Before I bought my Tundra I test drove a Ram Hemi. My brother bought a 3/4 ton and told me to drive a 1500 before buying anything.

So yeah...it rode really nice. Power was great. I hated the large screen and the touch screen interface. Never gave it serious consideration because, well, it was a Dodge. Just cannot bring myself to buy any Chrysler product.

Ask your friend where the RAM truck that has 1 million miles on the original motor is. Because there are 2 Tundras out there with that many miles on the original motor.

There's this Dodge that's a diesel and has gone through 3 motors and TWELVE transmissions. https://www.motor1.com/news/503261/1997-ram-3500-million-miles/

To each it’s own. Never understood people wanting a truck but then complaining about lack of “features”. If I wanted a G6 on the wheels I would get a Benz no questions asked. My dad is on his second Tundra, gave his first one to my brother in law with 200k on it and not a single issue. He is on his second one now. Unfortunately he was recently rear ended by a distracted driver and is driving a rental RAM. While it has lots of features I would never get one, it just feels soooo cheap.

Yeah it would be nice if the Tundra was a little more fuel efficient but man I wouldn’t change it for any other vehicle. I am also 37 years old. In my close circle of friends there are two Tundras, one F150 and a RAM (on order, currently owns a F150).

I just ask the Ram guys how do explain the much higher rate of RAM recalls and warranty work per 1000 units sold compared to Tundras?

I mean, it's entirely possible that someone is 'aiming' them at 'old guys trying to look young.'

With that said, I can tell you for a fact (and I don't exactly consider myself God's gift to women LOL) that my Tundra has gotten me more compliments and date requests (which is to say, I've gotten a few requests, as opposed to zero lol) than ANY other vehicle I've owned....so I mean, I dunno what to tell you.

I would have a hard time remembering all the compliments I have had about the back seat of the crew max. Not that the seats in themselves were comfortable, but how comfortable it is because of the huge amount of space the rear seat has. This comes from others that have had crew cab trucks, cars, SUVs. Just this last weekend, we picked up my son's GF and after 5 minutes she commented on the fact their two Lexus vehicles (SUV and car) backseats sucked for long distance trips and leg room. And she is 5'7" tall.

Looking for a new "used" truck I spent weeks researching issues for all models before settling between 2, the Tundra with the 5.7L and the F-250 with a 6.2L. Then heard about the F-250 "Death Wobble" and started looking for Tundra's only. I want my truck on the road, not in the shop costing me money. Had Nissan's in the past so knew not to even consider, owned a Ram and know how much time spent in shop. Chevy and GM's don't appeal to me. Ford knows what they're doing with trucks, a reason why they're the best selling ion America, but don't much like the F-150 and the Super Duty has that problem.
Old guys understand value over flash. I bought a Tundra with confidence!

Rams are big sellers up here in the PNW. I just don't get what the appeal is. I had one as a rental when my 2014 was in the body shop. I returned it the same day and asked for a different vehicle. The engine felt high strung. The transmission would want to shift whenever the throttle position changed and the ride felt like a car.

I personally know of two Rams that have had bad rear ends. What manufacture in this day and age has such poor quality control that they can't build a differential that lasts 100K?

Just to play devils advocate a bit.....

My new work truck is a 2021 Ram LongHorn w/ Etorque. Well equiped with power everything, heated seats / steering wheel, etc. Does not have the air suspension. Has about 1000 miles on it over the last couple weeks, so I cant talk about reliability.

    Pros:
    - Best riding truck I have ever been in, by far. Soaks up smaller chatter / construction sites / pot holes / speed bumps well, but still feels very solid for normal daily driving,
    - Interior is well laid out, and the interior fit / finish / materials all appear to be high quality and do not feel as cheap and plastic as the other domestics (or as cheap as many finishes in my Platinum Tundra),
    - Etorque system makes the auto on/off feature much less obtrusive compared to the systems in other domestic trucks. Operates much smoother to the point you can easily live with it, and forget its there,
    - Hemi 5.7 is a decently strong motor, and the ZF8 transmission is the best in the business. Does not seek gears, factory dual exhaust sounds great, and feels considerably stronger than my Tundra 5.7,
    - Fuel economy seems to be getting better rapidly. First tank averaged 15mpg. Now is averaging 18.5mpg (same driver and route, my Tundra averages 15-15.5),
    - Back seat is just as big as the back seat in my Crewmax Platinum, and has a true flat floor,
    - Stereo is great. Infotainment system is fast and easy,
    - Truly customizable display cluster is very nice touch,
    - I actually dont mind the rotary dial shifter. Super intuitive and easy. Not out of place like a column shifter, and doesnt take up a ton of room like a console shifter.

    Cons:
    - Am sure it is trim level related, but halogen headlights shouldnt be on a modern vehicle period,
    - Power sliding rear window is massive let down compared to full roll down in our Tundras,
    - Reliability is TBD, but being how the truck is mid design life cycle, I am confident many of the bugs have been worked out.

I have to be honest, this truck is nice enough that given the crazy used resale market right now it has me tempted to look at a new Rebel or Limited with an extended warranty. It is that much a STARK difference in ride quality, drivability, refinement, power, and amenities when driving it back-to-back with my 2018 Platinum (which I have done quite a bit of improving to, and have Falcon shocks on the way).

Just wanted to throw some actual 1st hand experience with a new late model Ram out there.
