Dude! I just had 2 surgeries last month to extract one 3mm big that was jagged and got stuck in my ureter. I was on heavy meds for the whole month for the pain. That one must have turned you upside down. It's amazing how something so small can render a man to the fetal position praying for death.

Those of you that get them, do you drink a lot of soda? I've been told that's a common cause. I've never had one.

Just reading this made me take a big swig of water...

I had surgery about 2-3 years ago to remove a 7mm but it was stuck in a "perfect" position where it didn't hurt me. Now it hurt like hell getting to said position but that was the only one I had removed. Fetal position and death is so true when it comes to stones.

I have a coworker that has some kind of medical condition he gets them all the time. He has had surgery three or four times. I can't even imagine the hellish pain that has to feel like. Hope you are feeling better.

I think it is different for everybody. My urologist told me to stay away from soda, sweet tea (sorry not happening), peanuts, very high protein and etc. What I have self diagnosed is the sugars or whatever in kids drinks or like the kool aid powder. I've had about 8-10 stones and I'm 90% sure that's what causes them for me.

Yup, there is a guy at my workplace that produces these things like a manufacturing facility. He avgs. 1-2 surgeries every year or so. One was 9mm. Not fun.

You'd rather have kidney stones than give up sweet tea? If it's as bad as people describe I could probably give up all sugary drinks for life after passing one stone. 8-10 and I'd turn my Glock on myself I think.

Back in my early to mid 20s I was doing a lot of riding. Very active at the time. I grew up drinking a lot of water but I also drink soda quite a bit as a kid. Grandma and grandpa always had a fridge full in the garage. Anyways, during my riding years, I started drinking Redbull, rockstar and Gatorade quite often along with water. Halfway through a ride day we stopped back at our trucks and I went to take a piss. It brought me to my knees the pain that ensued. I forced myself to continue urinating and it was only coming out as a trickle. I never saw anything come out. I was afraid to pee the next time I had to. But all was normal and I never felt it again. I also quit drinking all the energy drinks soda and Gatorade’s that I used to. Only occasionally now.

I don’t know if that’s what caused it but I figured that shit wasn’t good for me anyways.

Sweet tea isn't the cause for me. It was just one of the numerous items to check off to help determine what was causing mine. In all seriousness if sweet tea was causing them I wouldn't drink it. My 8-10 stones is over a decade. Since my surgery I've only had 1 and that was my fault b/c I drank something I knew I shouldn't but it was the only thing available at the time.

So one drink can cause you to get another stone? I always thought it was years of drinking the wrong crap. I guess everyone digests and processes things differently.

I get "the Gout" closely related to kidney stones. High uric acid levels from a high purine diet, in my case hereditary. Now, I pretty much can't eat any pork of any kind, certain cuts of beef, any deli meat, can't use a cast iron skillet, alcohol, the list is endless. But I hate gout that much that I try to stay away from all that stuff. cuz I hate walking like a 90 year old. I am very thankful that it is in my toes, and not where these SOB's come out. :eek2::eek:

Damn they pretty much told you don’t eat anything! Even certain cuts of beef and no cast-iron skillet! My father-in-law gets it but they told him to stay away from shellfish. I think even fish in general. He is 100% Japanese and grew up eating a lot of sashimi. Every so often he will eat it and pay for it shortly there after.
