Wow that was a lot of reading leading up to a purchase. Best of luck. I thought I was the only one who overthinks things that much. LOL My wife tells me I am beating it to death when I procrastinate. My 2021 Tundra is due on the 25th or so they tell me. We will see.

As someone who has been looking into a DC 4X4 Limited/SR5/PRO, keep in mind pro tends to have markups and not get any msrp discounts.

-If you get the SR5, you can get about 4-5k off msrp and take that and make it into a "PRO-Lite"(Nice off road wheels/tires/leather seats/led headlights, color matching grill etc) for like 3-5 grand so you would most likely save $8-10k over a pro after everything is said and done and mostly miss fancy amenities as keyless entry, auto up/down windows and dual climate

-Limited trim with off road package would save you like $6k+ over a pro after you are done upgrading the wheels/tires and color matching the chrome grill/bumper with the msrp discount extra $$ you have leftover.

-Pro is great and already has everything you need except perhaps small looking tires out of the factory. Biggest problem is they are super hard to get(Lunar Rock DC for example) and most buyers are getting 0 discount off msrp or inflated msrp prices right now, and it doesn't have a ton of tech to make it much better than other trims.

If you have the money then TRD Pro of course, if you wanna build it up to your liking and save a ton get the sr5 and if you want to essentially get a pro(pro is based off the limited trim) and save a decent amount then get the Limited with TRD package.

Where I live the only trucks still left on the lots are DC's and discounts are pretty non-existent. Dealers reasoning is that they are already cheaper than the Crew Cabs.

So got my order in, got a backup supposed to call me this week (they have an unspoken for allocation - but not my color choice and now had a used 2020 pop up.

2020 w/9k miles - list for 55k, think they are down to 54500. Realistically not a bad price - all things considered. Not sure on the story- but selling dealer sold it new in May 2020 (delivered in Dec 2019) - so barely broken in. Would sticker about the same as a 2021...but finding one on the lot is a different story.

The "scarcity" is starting to change - right on time for stimulus money.

Now to figure out what tires I wanna swap out to - sad a new vehicle and I have 3 "upgrades" already planned - tires, radio and possibly power running boards (wife loves em - I think its gimmicky but interesting).

Good luck, but it seems despite your research you are all over the map! New trucks are coming in as the computer shortage seems to not be as bad as it was a couple months ago. Go with your gut!!

I have always wondered about this, people complain about the rear seat room in the DC but I have been there and it's been just fine, definitely not tight and uncomfortable.

Maybe I am biased, I grew up riding the back of an access cab small Mazda truck, way smaller than the tundra DC and sure it wasn't perfect but it wasn't a big deal.

The DC on the other hand has decent legroom for driver and rear passengers and unless you and the passenger drive with the seats all the way back, there is pretty decent legroom left. As for the baby car seats, people fit them just fine in the DC with the front seats almost all the way back.

One thing to note is that passengers behind the co-pilot seat will always have less space due to the front glovebox taking legroom away and the passenger front seat needing to be moved back a bit to compensate.

My problem with the Crewmax besides looking pretty disproportionate and the tiny bed is that you have so much legroom that most of the time, you can't use it all. Most passenger rarely ride with their legs all awkwardly stretched out to make use of the extra leg room but if Toyota had made the rear seats recline like the second gen then I would say that it's totally worth it.

I ride with my seats not far back and my kids have complained that going from a 2006 DC to a 2020 DC that the back seat is smaller, which it is, and the seats are not as comfortable.

Weird, given that the first gens were more like midsized trucks then full sizes.

    Not sure at this point.
I actually remember riding in the access cab of my dads old Toyota pickup (not the T100). But, man that was real small back then. Then he got a Tacoma, and we sat in the back too and, yep, no leg room at all.

Now that I have my DC, given then I haven’t ridden in the back yet, it seems to have a hell of a lot of leg room compared to trucks back in the 90s.

The backseat in the first gen doublecab has more legroom and is more comfortable than the second/third DC...

Found some old postings from '07 when this was all more relevant.

I would agree that the 2nd/3rd gen's DC's backseat does feel sort of like an Access Cab seat as the angle is also lower than the 06 DC. Yeah, it's an upgrade over the Access Cab but really doesn't compare to the back seat of the Crew Max. As much as I don't like the way the Crew Cab looks vs the DC, I would get the Crew Cab if I had a do over, because of the kids. I've put 20,000 miles on my 2020 so my kids have a fair opinion of the comfort.

I am fairly short so my seat doesn’t go too far back. I have plenty of room in my DC with a 5 and a 7 year old. But I can easily see the DC not being good for a taller family.

My wife and friends have all commented on how comfortable the back seat is for looking “small”...

Having just buying a Pro reading all of this I must agree with everyone on building up a SR5 to your specs. The Pro = No Discount along with $10-$20K over MSRP. Then you'll still want bigger...Lift, Tires, Wheels...if you're into that...so add another $10k in wants...That's over $30k after taxes, I could've got all my upgrades to my specs for way under that. One things for sure you will love any route you choose.

    Ok - gotta ask

Why go the SR5/limited route and mod out.

I did the math on a used (2020) Limited:

    - Limited with TRD pack was 51,999...has 9k miles on it.

To start - id probably be swapping just the grille and wheels to "match" a Pro. Cost there would be approx 2500 - puts me at 54,500 (assume old ones have limited value).

To buy a new Pro - I'm at 55k...so where are the savings? I'm just not seeing them.

An SR5 - you can save a little, but not 10k. A new SR5 is going to be 45-48k with TRD package...you lose leather and a few creature comforts as well as the sunroof at that price point (no loss to me). Even there - absolute BEST case I save 7500 and potentially 5k. Not bad - but you also get what I felt was a much harsher ride and a more more hard plastics feeling interior.

The SR5 - you need to upgrade the suspension to get the ride of the Pro and not just the look. Figure 3500 there. Now your down to a "savings" of 4k to 1k....and you have a "tribute" vehicle. Come resale time in the next 7 years at least - those mods add little and the Pro commands a premium.

Again, I'm typically all for buying base and modding to taste typically. For the majority of big 3 vehicles its been the best deal around for years. But in this case - I'm still thinking a Pro.

Oh yea...another dealer called yesterday, they have confirmed allocation of 2 lunar CMs with VINs. I put my deposit on 1 yesterday. My local store said they were trying - but still no guarantees - so figured worst case I have to drive back "home" 350 miles and pick up what I want. Delivery projected mid-late May, they will contact me once confirmed on carrier.

Just my opinion. I will say it again. Going with the tundra Pro. Waiting for it to come in. If you don’t plan on modding the Pro is the way to go and especially resale value. My AG 4runner Pro and my 17 White 4runner Pro trade in value you cannot beat. Everyone has to make there own mind up which way to go. Yes a lot of guys knock the Pro but if it’s all about numbers and you trade in a lot like I do I will take the Pro.

My 21 Limited TRD stickered for 51k and some change. Dealer came off 3k and the 1k from Toyota put me at 47k. The pro has no rebates and the dealers won't move off msrp. But I'll echo what everyone in this thread has said. Get what makes you happy. I went from an SR5 TRD to the limited trd and to be honest that was a big jump for me. For me personally vehicles are a bad investment. I drive 100 miles a day for work and rack the miles up faster than I'd like.

Here is what they don't tell you over the phone. $55k Plus 10-20K (Dealer markup) so now you're at 65-75k plus tax, delivery, gap, other warranties and License. $75-85K is what you're looking at on a New Pro.

Yeah I don’t think it’s right that dealers mark up the msrp. I always paid msrp for my Pro’s. I wont pay over if that the case I will find a dealer that will sell it for msrp.

Who is paying 10-20k OVER sticker on most any current production vehicles (non special production) ?!? These buyers don't exist en mass. 1 off suckered - sure, but those are few and far between...and even then I suspect its a case of inflated trades to sell the financing.

I don't doubt a few places TRY - and will tell you the last buyer just paid that. But reality is - 95% of sales are sticker and buyers are happy to pay that - thinking they "got a deal".

Reality is paying MSRP is the norm - and neither a steal of a deal nor unreasonably high.

If I'm wrong - why do most posters report paying sticker...if they were going to lie/brag...wouldn't they post they paid hundreds/thousands less?

I wish this was the case. Mine was 15k Dealer mark up. I was the first to get a crack at it. I paid 10k over just to make sure I could get deal done (I only had an hour and a half to get deal done between my jobs) So couldn't haggle too much. As I was there though there were many calls of people wanting it although they didn't know about the mark up as I didn't either until I got to the dealer and seen fine print on sticker. If I didn't buy it someone else would have as here in Ca dealers are buying used "trucks" just to have some on their lots as there is a shortage. I guess supply and demand.

Free market forces. Supply and demand. As soon as new Pro's start collecting dust on the dealer lots, the price will come down. I'm not holding my breath.

How many do you see on lots collecting dust? I'm in the market for a 4runner Pro.

I am sure there are a few paying MSRP + Bump sticker, and a few getting under MSRP in situations, and at least one person that, by dumb luck, saved about $3k under MSRP due to a pricing error from dealership on website.

There are some data points in this thread that can help you see the ballpark pricing, but of course, some older posts and different economic situations...

Right now, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) on buying a new Tundra with known features / functionality (for example, V8), COVID shutdowns, boredom ("Hey, let's go buy a new truck!"), and chip shortages are driving pricing to higher than usual levels. So what someone paid 6 months ago may no longer be relevant.

Hopefully the dealer you put a deposit with holds to their pricing and you get the truck you want!

Yeah, this is what was happening when I bought my ‘21 SR5 TRD Off Road (Sept 2020). Pros were $60k+ before TTL. I got mine for a hair over $45k, which I think is a pretty decent deal considering there were still some 2020s on dealer lots at the time.

The only thing I really wanted on the Pro was the TRD Fox kit. I added that for $3k.

Really the only reason why I did it was a Failed class action Lawsuit on my Silverado 2500HD. Never buy Chevy/GMC again. The whole dashboard caved in and they refused to replace it due to them using cheap materials. Toyota offered me way above what I thought I would get and I ran with it. Wife and I was looking for her a 4runner and lets say I beat her to the punch hahaha.
