So...do I go TRD Pro, 1794 or new SR5

I would go the sr5 route. Then you can get exactly what you want. Plus if doing anything aftermarket you can justify going with the premium stuff.

I did the SR5 and upgraded it how I wanted but I think if I could do it all over again I would look for a Platinum with the TRD package (if that's available).

I got rid of all of my chrome, added the more pricey Katskinz leather, TRD Pro LED headlights, etc., etc. but it'd be nice to have a Platinum vs. an SR5 "but it's upgraded".

I thought in the US you could only get TRD packages on the SR5 and Limited. In Canada, it's only on the SR5.

I had the same ideas OP and ended up with. 2021 SR5 DC SX package. No chrome, has what I need and doing all the OEM upgrades at a fraction of the cost of buying TRD or Limited package. I was $38,xxx plus tax / tag back in Oct. 2020.

Another vote for SR5 with the TRD Offroad package, unless you need a sunroof.

Then make the truck what YOU want it to be.

Question for the OP; Do you use the bed?

I went looking for DC as well and wound up with CM. I do not use the bed all that often, and like you, it's just me and the wife - no hauling people around. But I do find the extra cab space to be rather useful on trips. A full size cooler fits easily into the back floor (seat bottom folded up). Basically, it opens up more environmentally controlled transportatiin space for things you'd rather not have exposed to the elements. I've been pleasantly surprised how much more useful the CM is for me.

If you need the extra 12 inches of bed, absolutely go DC. Otherwise, don't be afraid of considering the CM... it will open up your availability options quite a bit.

You can always add room outside with a trailer. You can't add more room inside.

Being your buying for the long haul get what your hearts telling you it will make it easier to keep and enjoy for years to come.
My choice was the 1794 witch had more options than the Pro I was wanting. The dealer installed the pro suspension before delivery and I switched out the front end with take offs from a pro. I like this truck better now than when we picked it up in 2016. I normally switch out every 4 years but there's no desire to trade for anything else.. and oh yeah if your planning on keeping a truck for many years black may not be the easiest to keep looking great!!!

Good luck with whatever your final decision is . IMG_3336.jpg

I found a used CPO 2016 1794 4x4 for $40k and 30k miles that was in like new condition. Like some others, I wanted to have most factory options and then add the LED headlights, TRD suspension, and other improvements to have the best of the 1794 and TRD Pro worlds.

I'd go SR5 and upgrade. As others have pointed out, the engine and transmission are the same for higher level trims. Besides leather and dual climate control there's not much else differentiating SR5 vs Limited and up. I do not think that justifies a 7k-10k premium...The 1794 has the western theme but I do not care much for the western themed accents....here's a picture of my 2020 SR5 with black catzkins leather added. Almost identical to a Limited for just $1k and change. PXL_20210124_133712167.jpg PXL_20210124_133712167.jpg

My 1794 also has heated and cooled front seats, blind spot monitoring, and park assist (which I’m not so crazy about). I like the black leather, but for me black interiors are too hot in the South Carolina summers!

Yea, I figured I left some other features out, but they just don't move the needle for me...I live in NC and will definitely use a windshield cover this Summer!...

Sr5 for the win! Make it how you want it. I just finished chrome delete. I really wanted an sx package but the lack of 38gal tank was a no go for me so I just got an sr5 with the 38 gal tank and bought all the parts to black it out. Next will be interior moving to katskinz and then suspension upgrades.

Your absolutely correct! In my mind it is the best tundra made. And I'm in a fantasy every time I drive it! And like I was trying to tell the op. If you like the pro then instead of buying a different model and adding pro suspension, pro headlights, pro grill, pro exhaust, chrome delete, ect. Then just buy the pro in the first place and be happy.

Ditto...been very pleased with my SR5 and made the changes myself to what I wanted to add.
I rarely have passengers except the dog so the rear underseat storage the DC offers is more pleasing to me than extra cab space in a CM with no under-seat storage.
Small point but I like the "shaved" rear door handles on the DC vs the CM as well.

First don't get me wrong I like the pro .....
but You do realize that the Pro is just a Tundra made the same way every other tundra is made with slightly better suspension than stock nothing else. My friend is always bugging that the PRO stands for poor ratings off-road he does have a valid point.
That fact he driving a raptor I feel he is somewhat right the Pro should have been beefed up with many more upgrades and be more capable off road makeing it a Tundra that's stands alone maybe then it could possibly be KING of the road or at least within the tundra line up. With Toyota that will likely only be a fantasy !!!

I would recommend just looking for a lightly used Tundra and save yourself the price tag of brand new. Don't get a TRD Pro. After browsing this forum for a couple months I just bought a 2018 Platinum Crewmax with 35k miles for $37k. 38 gal tank. It has every bell and whistle I could ever want, and if I want to lift it or make any modifications to it I can in the future. My logic is that I can't change the trim level of the truck after the fact, but I can change everything else. The reason I didn't buy a TRD Pro wasn't price--although that should be the first deterrent. The Pro lacks some of the creature comforts of the Platinum and you can add all the TRD components later if you want. The money you save by going with a different trim than the Pro you can spend on a much better suspension or a slew of other goodies. Oh, and get the larger gas tank if you can find one with it.

Here's an SR5 for sale locally that I considered for a similar price as my platinum (still for sale here in Oregon): https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/d/boring-2020-tundra/7269868379.html

Blaaaaaack always looks great...even with a few scratches. Super White tends to fade over time since it's single stage paint.

    Not sure at this point.
I'd agree with many in here to actually go with the SR5 and maybe a TRD package (center console shifter, 38 gallon tank).

From my own experience, to let you dive in a bit, I had thought about wanting an Toyota Tundra for a long time now. Drove by a local dealership and told my lady, "Man, that's the one I want right there!" Didn't think too much about it until I actually saw it up close the next day we went to schedule a viewing of the Tundra.

At first, I saw that it had a column shift, center seat, 26 gallon tank, and I was like, "Man, I really do want the bigger gas tank with a center console shifter". And really wanted the TRD package... but then I thought about it and the packages really changes the cosmetics, gas tank, and you'll probably get the Bilsteins 4600 for suspension.

Ended up opting in for the one I saw at my local dealership which was just the SR5 with the convenience package and so far, for the past 6000 miles I've driven it (mostly commuting and a lot of North East traveling), I love my truck! Sure the 26 gal tank requires more trips to the gas station, but I have gotten used to it.

Now with all the money saved up, I'm able to eventually look into future suspension/tire upgrades, cosmetic upgrades (headlights, bumpers, fenders, etc).

Tundra stock is real low now too since they're low on supply with semi-conductors from the recent news, so you're definitely not going to see that many Tundras in the dealership lots.

I 100% agree black looks great but once there's scratches not so much at least for me lol

I have owned several black vehicles and they are much harder to keep looking mint. Being I am a little OCD so whatever I drive gets waxed and washed so no fading is happening and if it does great excuse to pick up something new. Once I am not on a job site everyday I probably will go back to a nice black truck.
