That'll do. I'd also recommend adding a Call Recorder app to your phone and recording any and all further phone calls you have with them. I did this with a power company that was dicking me around. As soon as I informed them that this call was being recorded and any shenanigans would be passed on to legal counsel as part of a civil suit which would name every single agent I talked to and the company executives as well as the media, it immediately became "yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir".

All conversations are email, thus I have printed them all off! Thank you or the advice, I just emailed them to send me an invoice, and added that my house is now being damaged because they didn't add a moisture barrier behind the stairs! So pissed!

They are coming next Tuesday to do the removal! I won't be happy until it's done and my house is fixed with new stairs!

Thank you again everyone for your advice and support!

That's not a good sign at all. There's plenty of legit referral lists out there too.

    Here's the update....

Today: Per my contractor the town building inspector is coming out so that I have documentation that the stairs are against code, just in case these jerks go after me for money. If they even try I will be out of blood (speaking figuratively there) and will make sure this entire region knows not to use them!

Tomorrow AM: Idiots come and remove their materials. A guy friend is hopefully going to make it over in case there is any trouble.

Tomorrow late AM: My contractor comes and checks the condition of the wood and applies a vapor barrier as appropriate, and repairs any rotting boards etc.

Thursday or Friday: New granite company comes and prepares the ground and pours the cement pad.

Next week, maybe Tuesday the new stairs will go on.

Next Tuesday/Wednesday: My contractor will come back and do the finish work.

Feeling somewhat relieved that everything is in order to get this disaster fixed, I won't completely relax and destress until it's all fixed. Thanks again everyone for your support and advice. Will take new pictures when all is said and done!

Having the code officer's backing is the end-all to any bs arguments if they try to pull any with you. And having a dude to back you is also awesome. Strength in numbers and contractors tend to not take women seriously, even when they do a million times better work or know wtf they're talking about (from my own experience contracting and husband's observations when we talk to them and they divert all their attention to him because he's the guy). I get the blank stares when I use 'big words' related to construction.

The suspense is killing me!... :bananadead:

I know I was super impressed with your fixing of your house there!! It sucks, but you are are right, if you are a women they think you haven't a clue and don't expect you to stand up for yourself. I think they thought because I am a solo female home owner that I would just accept subpar work and wouldn't know any better, well they were wrong!

MUCH BETTER!!! My contractor still has to come fix the siding and add a bigger kick plate under the door, but the stairs came out beautiful! The gap at the bottom is for when I get new pavement next year. The is a space between the stair and where the pavement ends because the last set was longer so I did put some rocks there so the dirt won't get tracked inside. SO much happier, and it doesn't look like a gravel truck exploded. The other stairs were getting this rust stain all over them and I couldn't figure out why until they dismantled them, and it was then that my friend noted they used tin shims... ugh, they were truly incompetent! All is good now though... New storm door will be in in 2 weeks too!

Ahhh so I was right the base was not set properly.

So question for you, why not have the 2nd contractor pour a landing while they were there setting the new pad in place? Cost I would reason would not be much more esp since they were already there digging, just wondering.

The steps do look good, I love the look of hardscaping, granite and other natural stone.
