I have a security camera system on the house but I just picked up a Nest doorbell to alert me when someone is on my porch. The thing is pretty damn cool.
    Anyone else using smart doorbells?

Hardwired = just connect the wires. I hate electricity, and I can do it.

I have a Guardzilla camera. Was very skeptical with all the shiti reviews. Works good with instant notification. Not bad for $70.

They have both. Im talking about the ring door bell. The pro is hard wired and the regular 1 has a rechargable battery.

Ring. I have the older one. It does have a battery but hard wired is optional. I wired mine in, super easy. It’s low voltage, 24v.
I also have a couple of the stick up cams I put little solar panels up for those, they work great.

I picked up a Ring from Costco last year before I went on vacation.

    Likes:
    - idea of having my front door video/motion monitored day and night.
    - super simple install
    - able to chat with visitors at the door

    Dislikes:
    - reaction time is occasionally too slow. I'll only catch someone leaving.
    - software is glitchy. I've had to reconnect/set up a couple times in the last few months

Yes I have 1. But didn't do the install myself. It was part of my Vivint security system. I like it, it's good to know when you are getting stuff delivered. It allows you to keep packages on camera in case anyone tries to steal. Also the availability to talk to someone through the camera is nice. Notifications can be set to movement detection, or when doorbell is rang. Also has live streaming and the camera quality is good.Screenshot_20180701-073947_Vivint.jpg

I’ve had the ring original but the video was horrible. The newer or pro might be better. Recently switched everything to nest which has great video quality plus I like the constant video stream not just when movement is detected. It seemed I missed almost half of what happened when the ring cameras would kick on finally.

Only thing that has been subpar is the hello. Everything about it is awesome. But I’m on my second one because the camera is going bad. Now the 2nd one is starting to do the same. The video gets a white haze. Then it starts looking pink or bluish. Till finally the camera goes dark. It’ll last for a few days then suddenly go back to normal. Nest doesn’t know why some are doing it. Here’s what happens.

I’ll keep an eye out for that. Most info I read had the Nest as the best choice so I bought it.
Also remember for anyone installing these that while they are low voltage, usually 16-24 voltages (basically not even high enough to shock you) they can only get that voltage by using a transformer and stepping down your 120V. Transformers work either way stepping down or up so throwing shorts etc on that thing could cause it to fail or push a surge on the rest of circuit.
It is better to throw the breaker..

A ‘No Soliciting’ sign at front door works wonders. Cheaper too. The camera things are cool though. Def recommend some perimeter cams.

I didn’t really get it for soliciters. But now I will be able to tell them to piss off without leaving the couch! :D
I have 6 cameras around my house. They are quality and hard wired. I got a great deal from a buddy who owns the company.

A little frustrating at first but they sent a replacement. They just had some strange rule that if a replacement was sent the customer had to ship there’s back within 3 days of their replacement being shipped.

This was on a Sunday evening. I had to fight with them because I was out of town that week. So there was no way it was getting there by their set timeframe. I had to remind them that their $250 doorbell didn’t last more than 2 weeks.
