Rain and cold weather makes me lazy AF and all the honeydo shit takes up my weekends. One other thing that makes me lazy is how disorganized my tools are. I easily spend a couple hours looking for tools, bringing them out, looking for tools, and then putting them away. So I ordered this tool chest a few weeks ago (still waiting for this fucker to cross the ocean) so that I all my shit is in one place. Had to trick the :ballchain: for this purchase "Babe! Should I get a tool chest to clean and organize the garage so that you have easy access to all your shoes?"

A FYI......I've actually calibrated RF test equipment for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics back in the day and have been to the Skunkworks several times after they left the Burbank facility. Welding class is good BTW!

Have you been places where you had to be blindfolded and led through halls and elevators to rooms to calibrate equipment with armed guards at the door? Not common, but there are some places where things are rather interesting and make one wonder.

Yes. More than once. Example...the old converted L1011 hanger at Skunkworks in Palmdale. F-22 Advanced Development Program craziness going on at the time. No need to be blindfolded. No freakin windows anywhere for prying eye's. I had to calibrate several 50 GHz Network Analyzers externally mixed up to XXX GHz. I had to wait by the door outside the room where they were located. Once I got access, the engineers had covered up all their computer monitors. I was able to see the original SR-71A wind tunnel mock up model. Kuul beans to say the least. My reason to be there was to see the lab layout. Most of their RF goodies were dropped off at our lab in Van Nuys. I kept rejecting their Network Analyzers for blown S parameter inputs. Highly static sensitive. Each S parameter port was a $2500 fix. 4 ports. The first thing I noticed when walking into their analyzer room was....gaudy, red carpet! Everytime an engineer would walk up to an analyzer, they'd zap the ports. They also weren't wrist and foot grounded! I brought a Vaisala humidity tester. <10% humidity! The end result was for them to lose the carpet and get anti-static floor tiles and properly ground their test racks. Install a humidity controlled environment. No-brainer shit. Highly intelligent engineers. I have more stories. Did this for 45 years. Retired last January 31st. Ha!

And to think for the last five years I thought you only calibrated torque wrenches

Good story; would love to hear more some day

Calibrated a lot things over the years. A lot. Torque wrenches were boring. Only did those when they needed me to. Lots of $$$$ money to be made calibrating hi end RF test equipment. I spent 10 months in Alaska getting a calibration lab 17025 accredited. Metrology Quality Manager. Success! First cal lab accredited in AK. Got paid good $$$$
and had a bucket list experience! Derailing over now!
