I’m brand new to the Soviet, or in this case, the Chinese, rifle game. I have a Chinese SKS that has been converted/bubba’d to accept AK mags on loan. I don’t own anything in 7.62 and this thing spits rounds down range nicely and with consistency. And being pretty unfamiliar with the 7.62 round, it’s extremely pleasing to fire. The round is HOT. All of the numbers are matching. He’s offering to sell me the thing for $600. My gut is telling me this price is a bit high as the gun isn’t anything really special. All of the wood has been replaced with plastic and it has the flimsy folding stock(don’t like) and the spiker(which is in good nick and I definitely DO like). Like I said, I’m fairly sure this is a high price. Just wondering.

Are you sure it's a conversion?

The SKS-D came from the factory with AK magazines.

It’s not an M or a D, at least that I can see, unfortunately. I want to take it apart to see how exactly whoever did the work did it. That’s a huge factor obviously. The one certainty is that the mag seats nicely and there are no issues with it feeding or jamming.
