Ya on the other side of the pass they were having 65 mph gusts and didn't open two of the chairs. Luckily it scared people away and we kept lapping one chair and the wind/snow filled in our tracks each lap.

Our flight leaves early this Saturday morning. If she suddenly feels better tomorrow we will likely go for it. If we can't make it, Delta will give us credit for most of the cost of our flights, and we can postpone our Ikon passes until next year, but we'll be out for our part of the AirBNB since the folks we always go with will still be there. Yes, it sucks - big time.

No new snow for a couple weeks, but bought a new splitboard so got out and found some excellent powder on Saturday and Sunday. Did a peak with a friend on Saturday and then went back out with my wife for a more mellower day on Sunday.

The first ridge. The Peak is the next one over on the left (all covered in snow).

Laps me and the wife took. You can tell by the smile she was enjoying it.

Good question. They cost about the same and are both going to end up with dents and scratches. But personally, I have way more fun beating up my boards.

Look for a used split board. Lots of people buy one and never use it.

So you can snowboard OR ski with it? How do the bindings work on that?

The bindings are made specifically for the system. You UPHILL ski with it and then clip it together and reconnect the bindings as a snowboard to go DOWN. I have to imagine trying to ski DOWN with it "split" would be a train wreck.

Apparently, at least on CL here, everyone either wants brand new price for a board 1-2 seasons old, or $500 plus for one that's beat to hell and comes with no accessories.
But I will start shopping used.

Yes it is not real fun to try and ski downhill on one. However; I have some friends who are actually pretty good at it. Usually in the spring, me and some friends do a weekend trip, or a big peak and there's usually a contest on the way out or on some random hill to see who can ski the best on their setup. Picture tele skiing with only one good edge (because the middle section has no edge). I have never won... yet.

Pretty cool! Thanks for the video explanation! I'm too old to start boarding though - I don't want to waste a week or two learning when I only get a week or two in the snow every year.. I'll stick with my skis!

I went from X-country skis to a board, so I’ve never downhill skied. I hear you on not enough snow time. So far, this year’s not getting me a lot of mountain time yet. Thankfully our seasons should go into May in some capacity though.

Recently got back from a week long trip at Brian Head, UT.
Nice place to go snowboarding with the kids. Much cheaper than California resorts.
High altitude for lodging though, that kicked our asses. LOL

Yup what he said. I love Targhee. Terrain on both ends of the spectrum from easy/flat to gnarly. Friendly people, chill vibe, and I've never felt crowded there.

Well, since there hasn't been a lot of opportunities for pow, a buddy and I decided to get some of the goods from the spring mountain season. Below is a peak just down the road that I've wanted to do for a couple years. Luckily, no snow makes for safe avy conditions. 4,500 ft. of riding. My legs were trashed

Easley Peak from the parking lot. Elev. 11,108'

Little bit of skinning, and a shit ton of boot-packing

Finally made it to the false summit, and spotted a mountain goat. Apparently there were 4 that were running away from us down below

A little thin exposure getting to the summit

Finally, soft untouched snow for the way down.

Man that looks so good. It started dumping here the day after JH closed as usual. They won’t extend the season no matter how much we get
