This is just a fun thought experiment on how you would build a Tundra for a SHTF build. Would you go bumpers, armor, winch, etc? Would you have a tall suspension to drive over shit? Would you go long travel to travel though the desert at a high rate of speed or would the wider truck limit getting out of town? Would you keep the build as light as possible to allow for max payload? Bonus points for specific brands.

Anything less than this is inappropriate for a SHTF situation.

I would have to rattle can my truck black, then move forward with other SHTF mods like mounting guns etc. I like white, but IMO white is not as hard as black. See above photos. :D

I think I’d rather have a diesel for a SHTF build.

I have a diesel truck, would take the tundra in this situation. Wouldn’t have to worry about finding DEF and cetane booster/antigel somewhere.

Very true. Unfortunately in many places deletes are only as good as your registration is long. Many counties are no longer registering deleted trucks. Coming to a state/county near you!

When the SHTF, you won't need to worry about regis', only if something will still run. Old school diesels will run on veg oil and other similar products. I don't know if DFI's will but IDI's will.

I’d pick something old, with a Chevy 350, mechanical fuel pump, no electronics, easy to work on parts everywhere in the world. That’s just me.

You won't want anything that has electronics after the SHTF. Most cars from the last 40 years with electronic ignitions or controls will not run after any nuclear electromagnetic pulse. Old mechanically controlled diesels and cars with points will be the only things running.
Sorry to say, our Tundras will only be yard art.

I would pick something that was bone-stock looking (but capable) with zero extra doo-dads. All the external stuff just screams “I’m prepared!”, and makes the vehicle into a target for every asshole that isn’t prepared...#sneakawayquietly

Arguing about emissions on a hypothetical question...lol...only on the internet.

Okay, I'll play. I'll skip the dreamy stuff and keep it more "realistic". Give me heavy duty tires, strong bumpers for pushing, some good lighting, an extended range fuel tank and some quick-release rifle mounts in the cab. Ditch the Pro exhaust for something quieter and a switch to "go dark" on the truck...red lights in the dash, no brake lights, no cab lights, no DRL, etc. Stuff like comms and medical I'll keep portable. The rest of the truck's capacity I'll save for hauling gear (which is a whole separate thread).

If I want to go dreamy, give me a nice pair of NVGs, compatible driving lights and some armor.
