Windmills in northern climates where ice and snow are expected have built in de-icing systems. De-icing systems cost money to install and maintain, and after all "It never gets that cold in Texas".

I've read that this is the reason that the windmills in Alaska don't have the same trouble.

I've also read that one of the possible blames for the rolling blackouts could be that apparently TX didn't want to connect to the networks of adjacent states back when there was talk of secession. But we should be cautious about that subject with the no politics mandate here (pre-apologies if even that has crossed the line).

Texas grew its own network from the days of rural cooperative power companies. There was no excess in those days to power other states, so the grid remained isolated. Later on, growing energy demands made it a losing proposition to connect outside the state (paying for outside electricity rather than improving production) and the grid remains isolated today.

I see. The bit that I read focused more so on the lack of ability to "import" electricity in a scenario such as what's being experienced presently. A bit narrower perspective for sure without the more encompassing history.

Central ky has been getting hit this week pretty hard by old man winter. Much more than the past few years. I've been super impressed by my falken wildpeaks snow and ice performance.

Aftermath of the weekend storms when I got to work this morning. Parking lots were cleared every day for the most part. A little over 30" total snowfall over the weekend. We're at a little over 100" of snow on the ground now. 238" of total snowfall for the year so far. I thought I was going to get to go up to the rim today, but Park Service broke one of their big blowers trying to get 1 lane cleared up to the top. With the winds we've had in Southern Oregon I can't wait to see it up there. Drifts must be insane. Hopefully tomorrow. Last one is my coworker digging out his old Dodge 250 4x4. He's on his knees, obviously. 62f42f79-d0a6-4c2a-a9db-be46f6745762.jpg

We got that last night. I gotta say the ride to work this morning was much smoother but now it’s sleet and freezing rain. Please take your weather back up north.

Haven't seen snow like this in Central Arkansas ever in my 22 years of living here. Had to get a picture of the Tundra in it's natural habitat. Nocked all the snow off yesterday just to have it come back.

We've moved beyond 'Tundras in the Snow', and have now progressed to Southerners just posting pictures of 'Snow'. ;)

Here's a picture I took years ago (pre-Tundra) on a service road that had been cleared using a giant snowblower. Good 'ol Manitoba!

    Ranger Drift.jpg

P.S. I still miss that truck - 4.0L SOHC V6, 5-speed manual, wind up window, manual locks, etc. Great little truck. Got a little too small when I started a family.

As others stated I can finally contribute to this thread..

    Dallas...
Shoveled the driveway twice this week.
Monday because we had no power and I was bored..
Today so I could get in and out of the driveway..
Only driveway on the street clean, everyone else is going to wait for it to melt this weekend.
And they are parking in the street because they can't make it up the driveway...:D

Austin TX, late to party. One of the lucky few who hasn't lost electricity yet, but city shut down water on my street yesterday so we're heating snow on the stove for showers and luckily I'm a bit prepper minded and have 80 drinkable gallons in garage.
