Picked up a griots polisher kit during the holiday sales. Always good to have back up machines and I have been wanting a g84BE4B764-99EF-4207-91A4-96A2584C19D3.jpg

Aw sh!t I didn’t even look at detailing stuff during Black Friday this year. Spent all my money on a C4 bumper and BD lights.

If I had the space I would do the same. I have a problem with buying stuff I use whenever it goes on sale regardless if I need it or not. But when I moved into the RV had to be smarter with the space I had available. But I’m getting a storage unit when I get back so I can get some gallon sized stuff for detailing. Plus I want a polisher for the next time I fully detail the truck. I used my brothers the last time and it saved my shoulders and a bunch of time.

i bought the gauntlet from the rag company in the 30x36 recently and holy hell that thing is awesome! i started flood rinsing the vehicle once done to have most of the water sheet and bead off. i did that to both my sequoia and the wife's van and was able to dry both with that one towel! i still have the griot's i use for the wheels, but find this one works a little better. it's still a good towel

Yeah buying gallons especially on sale is the way to go if you have the space. Most the products I use I can’t just go grab at the store and I hate running out of stuff. I think griots polishers are still on sale. @Hightide just grabbed a deal on a g8.

You're the first person I've heard that said any towel worked better than a Griots PFM. How old and what size are the PFMs you have?

Largest one is like 24x18 or so I guess, is about a year old and the other is about 6-9 months old.

I have two of the original PFMs....one is about 4 years old and the other is about 2 years old...and both do an amazing job. Based on what you're saying about the gauntlet, I may have to try one the next time they have a good sale

The PFM's work well, don't get me wrong. I just felt like I would dry it off, and it would leave that lil bit of water behind like the fibers couldn't fully grab it. It did well, but I personally feel like the Gauntlet does a lil better. My original one that's a year old is "tainted". I used bead maker with it as a drying aid and when I threw it in the wash, I didn't do a load until the next morning and the fibers had some resistance to absorbing. So I kicked that one down to pretty much wheels. Totally my fault. So I bought another PFM cuz I still liked it. But I saw thr Gauntlet and got it on a 25% off sale I believe and heard good things about it. And since I'm drying the wife's van and my sequoia, there's a lot of real estate. It's freaking huge! I've been flood rinsing pretty much every time as of lately, so it makes it that much easier to dry. But I feel like the Gauntlet gets all the water when I feel like the PFM gets about 90-95% of the water in a pass....which means I'm passing again.

Gotcha.....I've been a fan of the PFMs since I bought my first one several years ago. Like you, I have mostly larger vehicles (Crew Max and GMC Yukon) to dry, so if there's something that works better than a PFM, I'm all for it. Sounds like it's time for a comparison test.

Wonder how accurate the GPM rating is? Also wonder if it could be converted to wall mount setup

It did a pretty good job with my foam cannon. I was using dawn for a de-con wash and it was giving me a good, thick, shaving foam consistency. I don't really have any interest in a wall mount setup yet, but love the electric vs gas for car washing....its nice not listening to the motor run the whole time you're using it, and no exhaust smell.

So...generally speaking...Chemical Guys products get a bad rap on most detailing forums.....but you do have a decent starter set there. Having used some of them, I'll give you an honest assessment of them. The foam gun is pretty nice......it should serve you pretty well. Honeydew snow foam is a good shampoo...you will like it. Silk shine is a decent interior dressing....I tried it on the exterior and it ran something awful. Use it up and move on to better things. Diablo is a decent wheel cleaner.....not the best, but okay...use it up and move on to better things. The protection afforded by Butter Wet Wax will last about as long as it takes you to apply it. If you like waxing your car every week, buy a gallon of it....if not.....use it up and move on to better things.

Haven't used any of the other products, so I can not comment on them. Best of luck with this obsession.

This review of CG made me laugh.

I first dabbled with their products by getting their window cleaner. Complete garbage. A damp rag is more effective at leaving a clean and streak free windshield.

I refused to give them any more money, but have been trying out some of their stuff....well, pads and pad cleaner first. I liked it enough and bought into the hype that they are doing on Instagram with their no-nonsense invisible cleaner. I'll drink the koolaid on that one because the "greenish" tint that my Tacoma door handle had gained cleaned right off with that stuff. I'm going to try it on my Weathertech mats next. That's the extent that I've tried CG, but I did consider picking up some of their leather cleaner and conditioner when it was on sale. Fortunately or unfortunately, the store was out of the cleaner and only had the conditioner and you had to buy 2 products to get the discount. So I went home with just U-bolts (for a different project).

I don't even think our Expedition has real leather, but I'm assuming a dedicated leather cleaner and leather conditioner would still be the ideal product to use on faux leather. Save me some money if I'm wrong.
