I'm as lost as you are buddy. I sent him my GG6 and some goodies to go with it. I have no clue what the craftsman buffer thing is all about. He has to be messing with me.

Just giving it a good wash I can do in under an hour. A couple of hours if I’m being really thorough.

For polishing, it’s hard for me to say, since I’ve only once stayed at it and done a whole vehicle at once. That was about seven hours. Someone with more experience can definitely do it faster.

Lol yes I am busting balls is all. My wife picked up the Craftsman today at a garage sale cause she knew I wanted one. Bless her heart, but not even on the same planet as a G6.

Sounds like a good wife. It looks like that may be good for spreading wax, I'm sure you can find some 10" microfiber bonnets for it. It might be quicker than the DA for that purpose, but I'm sure once you use the GG6 you won't wanna touch that buffer, I actually have a 6 or 7 inch buffer that I should give away to someone

I think the porter cable is a good one, usually around $125 buy you need to buy a backing plate for it. There is the soon to be defunct griots GG6 that is a great machine for under $150 (if you find one around $100 go for it) or the new griots G9, this is the best bang for your buck.

You wouldn't wanna use it to compound or polish on your ceramic coating, cuz that would remove it. You can use it to apply waxes and sealants, buff out glass, and repair damage to ceramic (you'd have to re coat those areas after).

I will be in the market for a polisher here soon. Never used one. I want to buy a quality one but not break the bank. I'm assuming polishers are the same as anything else that you get what you pay for. What do you guys recommend?

I'll be getting the Griot's Garage G9 soon. It'll be my first and from what I've heard, it's the perfect starter unit.

I had a griots gg6 and I liked it a lot. I just sold it and ordered a g9. The reviews for the g9 are great but I can't say much since I havent even received it yet. The online consensus in the g9 is the best bang for your buck. There is the Porter cable for a little less but IMO that machine isn't worth the savings over a griots, but would make a great backup or second polisher. Steve and Jim both have flex polishers IIRC and love them. Those are quite a bit more expensive but are also better. Rupes is top of the line and supposed to be amazing, especially the long throws. But at $400+ they are over most people budget. Personally I say go for the G9, it seems the be the best value for a quality polisher

I messed around with my G9 a little last weekend. Nothing major, just taking it for a test drive.

Compared to the G6, it feels more powerful. It’s quieter, and has way less vibration. I thought that I’d miss the handle from the G6, but the new design actually felt better. The placement of the speed control is much better, and I am really digging the trigger on it.

They absolutely do. Clear Cut is a great compound, and Essence is a great polish. I don’t think they have pads though. Lake Country makes great pads, as does Griots.

2nd for carpro clear cut and essense, make sure you get essence extreme gloss enhancing polish and not essense +plus. They look the same but are very different and really carpro should change one of their names. Anyway these 2 products work very well and have long working times and very low dust. I just got a new bottle of each.
If you wanna try something inexpensive and readily available, go with meguiars M105 and M205, they work great but tend to produce more dust. M205 is so versatile that most of the time you can use just that and dont even need 105
I like lake country hdo pads a lot. They do what they are supposed to do and are durable and easy to clean. Yellow for heavy cutting, orange for light cut/heavy polish, black for fine polishing.
For really heavy cutting I have tried buff and shine uro-wool cutting pads and they definitely add to the cutting ability.
Also buff and shine make some great microfiber pads. Their urofiber pads are great as is their urowool. They make cutting, polishing, and finishing grades of MF pads.i wouldn't count out MF pads and if you get some, go with B&S, good stuff.
I use both foam and MF when I do a project and am still deciding which I like the best. I like how thin the MF pads are and they are easy to clean, so it's possible one day I would switch to all MF, but for now I will still use a lot of foam.

I dont know anything about maxshine. That's a 15mm "long" throw so theoretically it would be faster to cover an area, that's a little too cheap for a long throw. I would get the G9, griots is well known and respected in the detailing world and they offer a lifetime replacement warranty. So for me hands down get the G9.

Usually they exclude polishers from coupons, ,not always but usually.
Anyone wanting a polisher should JUMP on this deal right now. I assume it included the 6" but also a 5" backing plate and a couple pads. All for the same price as a G9 normally is

The 7424 is the original DIY polisher and still are very good today. I'd stick with it unless you really want a different one.
I like lake country backing plates. 5" seems to be the most popular, it's a good size to keep the power of the machine maximized and buff out a lot paint pretty quickly.
I also use lake country hdo foam pads, and buff and shine urofiber pads. Whatever pads you get, make sure you get a few of each. You will need a lot of pads to buff out a tundra.

Detailedimage has 15% off right now and some polishers ARE INCLUDED, looks like Rupes are not but Griots are good to go with the coupon.
