IGL started putting graphene in their Quartz+ ceramic. Base coat was perfect per usual as it doesn't contain the infusion. Top coat would flash instantly (TDS sheet stated 30 sec to 2 min flash, however we tested several panels and in less than a second it would flash over and make it impossible to buff even with a microfiber with distilled water). Called the rep and I mentioned Quartz+ and he immediately cut me off and asked "top coat?" So they know something is wrong. Some of his responses irked me so I said to hell with it and went with GP's graphene after discussing options with the car's owner.

Did they tell you what the issue was? They have some bad batches or something?

The car looks great. Sucks you had to kill yourself to get there.

They did not. He tried to make it seem "this is how graphene works." I spoke to a few other IGl installers (some with large scale, multicoat jobs a week businesses who see way more volume than I ever will) and even they stated they won't touch Quartz+ right now because of how miserable the top coat reacts. I really hope they get it figured out because I enjoy the products they offer..just sucks their 2nd to highest tier coating is ruined like this.

I've applied quite a few coatings personally and professionally and never had issues with any like this. None of the tricks for leveling would work.

And stories like this are the thing that paralyze me when it comes to detailing. I'd have no clue how to try and fix it if I had your issues, @Ckatz53. Not entirely sure I'm understanding what the issue was because I don't fully get the terminology. I'm just over here watching it all unfold like a soap opera that I've missed the first two seasons of. I understand that it's a train wreck and cannot look away, but I don't know who any of the characters are.

Ive never used any of their stuff, but I’ve heard good things. A good company should immediately rectify this though, and be completely transparent. When he knew exactly what you were talking about that tells you they’ve been getting a lot of calls and are well aware of it.

Another reason I’m not a fan of coatings. If something goes wrong it’s going to be a bitch to rectify.

Not crazy difficult. Just have to polish it off (white LC pad with M210). Problem is typically you're an hour or two in at that point and have to let the reapplication cure again.

The real issue what I put an entire base coat down (1.5 hours of work on this big body car) only to realize the top coat was screwed. So I had to remove the entire base coat by polishing again...and then rejewel the whole thing. So what went from an easy 4 hour day went to 10 by the end of it lol.

Yeah they are typically very good. A shit product can be rectified by good customer service. I realize innovation can come with problems in the early stages. But the way he handled it with me was just blah. Glassparency on the other hand was sympathetic, 1 day overnighted their product to me for free, and sent a customer car kit (8 Oz of their Boost spray and 8 Oz of their SiO2 soap) for free for my client. As long as the coating holds up to their durability ratings, I may be switching altogether.

All in all, for an extra two days without his weekend car, the client made out with a slightly higher quality coating (graphene), an extra year of protection from what was originally discussed, a free care kit, and I coated his windshield for free as a "sorry for the wait" apology. He was very understanding. Sent pics this AM and he's ecstatic.

Couldn’t figure out how to upload the video, but it is so satisfying!

First attempt at reflection on the lunar rock sequoia. Hoping once I coat this one I'll get better reflections.

Got the LR Sequoia polished up for some carpro cquatz 3.0. Took about 8 hours from start to finish. Didn't get final pics cuz it was 9:30 when I finished and I was stinky and tired.

Thank man. It was definitely a beast! I had to correct a couple small issues this morning, but got it all back up and going. But I'm just trying to utilize what I learn from all of yall here. I never thought I'd ever apply my own. Here I am now having done 3 vehicles in under a year

4Runner with a one step correction and ceramic wax today. The before/afters of the hood was what the entire vehicle looked like. Some sort of spill etched all over the paint. And every single window looked like the sunroof here. Thank God I've practiced how to use wheel acid to remove etchings from glass because I was not about to glass polish today.

Had two setups I had to switch between. 75% of the car a LC blue medium cut HDO pad and 3D One did the trick. Heavier water spot etching and some of those liquid etch paths needed a LC orange light cut HDO pad and M110. The M110 ran on high speed for two passes (setting 5), backed down to speed 4 for two passes, then a final 5th pass on 3. M110 finishes great for a compound with a soft polish foam pad but I've found backing down and altering movement speed makes it finish even better.
