Detail tip...apply heavy coat of premium carnuba wax then sprinkle with corn starch and wipe away with a terry cloth. No hard buffing, no swirl marks. Just mirror like finish. Rinse off dust and dry. Your truck will love you, and you are gonna love the corn starch.

    Never heard that. Neat tip.

Edit: Seems controversial. Can you elaborate? Consensus seem this is ok for single stage paint jobs but not so much for clear coats. Also seems to behave like an AIO.

    Thoughts and experience?

Been using this method on my vehicles for over 30 years. Always love the results.

I've never heard this tip either.....got some questions.....since corn starch absorbs moisture, does it cause the wax to flash/haze faster? Is the end result that more of the wax remains on the surface? What carnuba wax do you use, and have you seen any increase in the longevity/durability versus not using this method?

It dries up the excess wax by absorption of course. Does the wax job last? Yes. I use mcguires gold paste. Two containers or boxes of starch for a tundra. Just throw it sideways on doors and bedside tailgate etc. Trust me, works! You will wait for the haze before starching. When you think fully rinsed give it a little more to get all the dust out of crevices.

thank you......I've been reading about guys using it on wool pads to take out sanding and compounding marks.....definitely old school.....sounds like it definitely got it's start back in the days of single stage paints. This is why I love forums...you learn something new every day

I learned it from a detail man many years ago. Happy waxing! The crew max roof is difficult to reach in the middle, I roll down windows and stand on door for the front.

Full wash, chemical decor, light polish and sealant. Products used:

Purple Power Boat and Vehicle wash
Super Clean for the tires and wheel wells
Meguiars Wheel Brightener for the wheels
Meguiars Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner sprayed on the paint for iron decontamination.
Wet sanded a couple of spots with some light scratches with 2000 and 3000 grit sand paper.
    3D One polish
    DupliColor wax and grease remover
    Xtreme Solutions Poly Seal

Next wash I'll use Xtreme Solutions Topper for a bump up in slickness and gloss.

Truck looks awesome. Got a few questions...the scratches were bad enough to wet sand? Just out of curiosity, how does Poly Seal hold up on it's own as a sealant? What pad(s) did you use with 3D One?

After watching videos from Apex Detail on YouTube, I've just found it to be faster to wet sand the scratches rather than the many passes it would take with the polisher. I used an orange medium cut pad (can't remember the brand) for the spots I wet sanded and then I went over the whole truck with a soft black polishing pad (same brand as the orange that I can't remember.) Brian from Apex Detail has convinced me that at least a light polish is required to get the most out of any applied wax, sealant or ceramic coating.

I'm new to Poly Seal as this is only the third vehicle I have applied it to and those other two have only been applied since Christmas, but are holding up well. I applied it to my son's truck and he is currently in college in Flagstaff, Arizona. He told me the snow just slid right off his truck and that has a Poly Seal base and Topper applied as well. I think 6-9 months is not out of the question and longer since I'll be using Topper as well on occasion.

Here is a link to Apex Detail. Kinda weird, but his latest video is right on point for what we were talking about. Go to about 5:30 in the video.

What's interesting is that I do not see him break out a paint thickness gauge, prior to wet sanding. Maybe he had already taken some readings and knew how much he had to work with? He also put a fair amount of pressure on that panel while sanding it....you could see it flexing.

He uses a gauge all the time, he just doesn't always show it. He said that car was brand new with hard clear coat. In my opinion, he has the best instructional and review detailing channel on YouTube.

My truck has a base layer of Xtreme Solutions Poly Seal which I applied about a week ago. Yesterday I did a dry application of Topper because it works well with Poly Seal and really improves gloss and slickness. Going forward I will be using Topper as a drying aid after every wash. I'll use a quick spritz or two depending on the size of the panel I'm drying. I'll probably apply Poly Seal again in about 4-5 months. All of this is probably a bit of overkill, but I love detailing my vehicles.
