Well, the story comes to an end—I sold the Sierra today (sort of, I got a deposit for it). It was an amazing truck, but it was a bit too much for me. The Tundra is staying. I know I’ve had mixed feelings about it, but that’s only because I want it to be perfect—and it’s not.

Overall, it was a fun experience. I put about 2,000 miles on the 2500HD, and it was great. If I ever need a heavy-duty truck again, I’ll definitely get another one.

I bought a wrecked 2024 Silverado 1500 5.3 v8 to restore and compare it to the Tundra, but that’s a whole different story.

Curious on how the ride was in the 2500?

Got a buddy with a 24 1500 and he loves it compared to the 2nd gen Tundra he used to have. Not sure it would be such a big leap from a 3rd gen, but interested in seeing where this goes!

Ride was surprisingly good for hd truck. I loved it. Just did not need a full hd truck, so decided to sell and get the newest chevy 1500 instead. Buying wrecked one to restore was most economical and fun path, I'm pretty excited about this project!

Probably a good decision, especially if you own a diesel. It needs to be worked.

New project seems like fun. While it is all tore down it might be a good time to delete the AFM system.

I'll leave it as is—it's too much work for me. I'm fixing this truck for my wife, and I usually update her vehicle every 2-3 years. I'm confident it will last that long for her. It currently has 12k miles, and she typically drives about 10k miles per year.
If I end up liking the Chevy more, I might keep it for myself, sell the Tundra, and get her something different—like a 2020 or newer Mercedes-Benz GLS.
She doesn't care much about what she drives as long as it's fairly new, has the latest tech, and looks shiny, lol

Well, the 2024 Silverado project turned out to be way too easy and quick, so I won’t be making a separate thread for it on this forum.

I’ve basically replaced the bumper, one fender, the grille, and one headlight. There are still a few small things left to do, but nothing major.

Ok, it’s done. Kind of boring.

The Chevy has a slightly softer ride than the Tundra. The horizontal screens are pretty cool—I like them. My wife said it’s a keeper, so it’s officially going to be her truck.

After comparing the Tundra to GMC, Chevy, and Ford, I’ve come to the conclusion that the Tundra is unique—almost like an exotic vehicle. You either love it or hate it, but one thing’s for sure: it’s not boring. My wife’s Silverado is great—everything works exactly as it’s supposed to. No chasing weird sounds, no worrying about the engine exploding. But it’s... boring. It’s not exciting, and it doesn’t evoke any emotions.

When I compared my Tundra side by side with other trucks, I realized it’s far from being the best—not even close. But I still like it. It has character, it’s fun, it’s quirky, and even though it’s not the most functional, I can’t help but enjoy it. It’s a keeper—at least until Lexus decides to make a truck. If they ever do, which is unlikely.

The heart wants, what the heart wants!

Good honest take, and one that will allow you to enjoy your truck without having to come up with mind games to convince yourself its better.

I think you have a fair take on the Tundra. I will say the little diesel in the GM twins adds a lot of character to the truck that makes it fun!

You also made quick work of the rebuild. Was the truck just in an accident and you bought it or was it a salvage rebuild?

I purchased a Silverado from the IAA auction it has now a reconstructed title. All parts were sourced directly from the dealer. There was no structural damage—just a straightforward bolt-on replacement of parts. It was quick and easy.

Gmc is officially gone now. Guy was short 3k and gave me his old bmw instead. I already spent $800 on it in 1 day. Still like it, lol ( I just bought digital cluster and Android auto radio )

Yes. BMWs drop in value very quickly.

The trade-in value is quite low. It’s worth $6,000 to $8,000 at a dealership, but I accepted it at the trade-in value.
