Sand is really only helpful on wet rail, snowed over rail, or frosted rail. No real need on dry clean rail aside from high tractive effort pulling from a dead stop.

Trade the tundra in on a new Canyon. 1 dealer, and two completely different trucks, so one feels like a sports car when you aren't at work.

Sort of joking, but in seriousness I would dump the Tundra. Unless they were both paid off and insurance was free, I think you are wasting a lot of money. Even if you have 3 million a year in fun money to spend, its a silly way to spend it. BUT I probably buy or spend my money on a lot of "dumb things" too, so glass houses and all that!

But for personal enjoyment, I would consider a smaller, more fun vehicle if my DD for work was an HD bruiser. I don't consider a Tundra of any gen, a fun smaller car.

Well, honestly sounds like you got it covered. Only thing I can think of next is an expansion on your shop!! Enjoy the trucks, we love our Yukon and have been happy with our local GMC dealer the last 1.5 years with it.

Got a buddy with a baby duramax who tows big heavy (for a 1/2 ton) trailers regularly and loves the thing. Hopefully it translates a size up. Good call on the taco, I had a 2016 as well and the Atkinsons cycle suck !

That’s pretty much how I felt about the 3rd Gen Tundra. Which is why I don’t own one.

If you don’t want the Tundra get rid of it.

If you want a Japanese made Toyota 4X4 I can recommend the new 250 series Land Cruiser. The materials quality and build quality of ours (so far) are noticeably better than the 3rd Gen Tundra and Sequoia we looked at.

Plus you’re in Alaska and full time 4 Wheel Drive would be pretty useful to you guys.

Truck is almost ready. Got the new Falken AT4W's on it and it is looking pretty tidy.

Hoping to get 20ish MPG! We might get this tomorrow or in a few days as we are waiting for a letter from Toyota to release the lien on it.

Hope you don’t plan to run those Falken’s in the snow. Apparently the new AT4W sucks monkey nuts in snow according to some testing.

Diesel is around 30% more efficient than gasoline, so that makes sense.

Pretty wild how efficient and powerful new technology is huh?

I've heard the 2024 trucks are not doing as well on the fuel economy, but what can you expect with 470hp and 975tq?

smh trade that tundra in on a Porsche and keep it moving. At this point you’re reaching for reasons to keep it.

I am hoping that we can a bit of traction with these. We don't get a lot of snow here. Our Winter consists of a couple of snow events followed by days/months of rain. So we are more into slush.

My Toyo AT3's on the Tundra were not great but I expect that the light rear end had a bit to do with that. The OE starter tires (Michelin LTX) that came with it were like slicks.

I guess any tire manufacturer can stick the 3 peak logo on their tires and call them good.

You're not driving your truck due to failure fears IIRC? In that case, any tire should work pretty well.

Ya, unfortunately we didn't want to risk it. Our livelihood is based on our business and the Tundra is owned by our business. This is my first dip into the Toyota swimming pool after my 73 Celica. We also don't have first hand experience with GM and never thought we would head there. We wanted to get an HD and probably should have done that rather than deal with Toyota Canada for the last 2 years! The truck having issues was one thing but they showed us who they really are and same with the dealership. This was the tipping point for me.

So now we are heading into another unknown (GM) and hope that the truck is a beast and lasts many years. I am looking forward to the 910 ft-lbs of torque as well ;)

I just turned 20K on my '23 1794. I need to have the oil changed and tires rotated again. The volume knob has a wobble and the right front rotor has a minor shimmy when I apply the brakes at 75MPH. I should probably get a really good lawyer and sue Toyota. Or, I could just ask Toyota to fix the shudder which they'll be happy to do.
It's been as reliable as an anvil although I admit there's a learning curve. 22.8MPG from Asheville to Ft Lauderdale yesterday. No worries by me.

Thanks for the comment. While we didn't suffer major damage to our house everything is a mess. 4 weeks with no water. Potable water only came back today. Internet out 4 weeks. Power out for 3 weeks and then off and on still. Lousy cel service as the towers were knocked out and we're on temporary towers now. I was able to help some people which is a good thing but there's been more than what I've done come back. People who've lost everything if asking if they can help me. Crushing. Getting better though.
The Tundra has been in heavy service hauling stuff.

I still like a well sorted sedan or sports car much better than a truck. I drive a truck or SUV when I need to which unfortunately is a lot of the time.

I don't blame you one bit. I enjoy driving my truck, but there is nothing like a sports car/sedan with some real performance to get the blood flowing.

Got my eye on another Z71. This one is a convertible 2 seater (sort of). I am sure it is a Duramax as well. :)

If the chev is problem free and the tundra is on a recall list than Id keep the one that isn't a ticking time bomb. Just sayin

But he did say the Tundra was flawless. And if on the recall he gets a shiny brand new engine. Not bad. I’ll say this I was dropping someone off and had the window down. Could hear the factory exhaust and the whole engine sound is unique and cool. I know this sounds dumb
