I searched for this topic first but did not get any hits. I notice that on many 2nd Gen pics the shifter is on the floor vs. the steering column.

I have a 2013 Tundra w/Off Road package with the shifter on the steering column. Does anyone know what determined where the shifter was placed?

This is my first truck so not well versed in these details. Thanks to all.

On the 3rd Gen it's called the premium package. Gives you console shifter and power driver seat. Not sure if 2nd Gen is the same story, but seems likely.

The column shifter came in trucks with the front bench seat. The console shifter is in all trucks with front bucket seats.

    Edit: edited for correct information.

The SR trim level had bench seats and the column shifter. The SR5 trim level did as well, unless the SR5 upgrade package was added (this brought the console shifter, bucket seats, 38 gal. tank, etc). Limited, platinum/1794 and pro had console shifter only.

I wanted buckets & console at first, but I am glad I got the split bench & column shifter.

Sorry - forgot to check back on this thread. Rex Kramer's pic is right on. The only plus I can find is the fold down seat between driver/passenger seats where the floor shifter/console would be. Makes it difficult to mount a phone around the shifter for sure.
