For something that size, I'd suggest keeping an eye on your payload; I think the Tundra is rated at around 1500 pounds of payload, so it could become an issue. Not saying the truck won't do it, but "it's rated for it" does not equal "it's a good idea". I tow a 5000 pound trailer quite regularly and it works fine, minus the typical bitching about poor gas mileage <shrugs>. Just my .02

I tow this big gurl... towed over 500 miles in one direction.. no issues. Ok minus the blow trailer tire... that was my fault the tires were sun rotted, and i ended up blowing three in 50 miles.. now i have all new tires

Which 2016 OP? Here’s the exact page from my link re payload, look at that sweet cap on the 4x2 reg cab >500lb more than the 4x4 crew!

I've seen that doc, it's where I got the 1000lb TW. I am considering a 4x4 double cab.

Yes interesting about the 4x2 reg. I've heard that the crewcabs sometimes haul less but didn't think about the smaller truck hauling more.

I've pulled that same load (7500 horse trailer) all over the midwest with no issues. I did install airbags to decrease squat a bit, but she pulls without issue regardless of weather and temp. In hot weather, I do pin the thermostat on the transmission.

I should've noted--search pinning the thermostat if you're towing in hot weather! Otherwise, trans temps will get up to uncomfortable levels.

Thank you! Do you mind sharing how long your trailer is? I assume bumper pull?

One time, after sleeping at Holiday Inn, I woke up and felt like I could tow a Space Shuttle.

You’re going to be very happy with your choice. I towed a 22’ Arctic Fox trailer, 6500 lbs.+ and about 500 lbs in the bed under a shell from Central California to Jasper and Banff. The Canadian Rockies were a great test and the Tundra exceeded expectations. I will add some air bags to the rear, otherwise it’s great. Braking and power so much better than the 2004 GMC Z71 it replaced. I got 8.9 mpg over 4000 miles towing, mostly at 65 or less in some Canadian roads due to speed limit. It’ll pass anything but a gas station, glad I got the 38 gallon tank.

I tow a 30’ Jayco trailer which fully loaded weighs 7,000. I use tow-haul and go 65 mph. Took a trip with it to Island Park, Idaho up the Ashton hill and back down and averaged 8.8 mpg. It was my first time towing with this truck, and I had plenty of power and was very pleased with how well my truck towed.

    hahahaha

wellll i was in parker AZ on a trail and forgot about this little wash and instead of slowing to 10-15 mph i hit this thing at 35... and it was a 2-3ft drop off about 6-8 ft wide then another 2ft back up.. so went off the edge and smashed into the other side came to a complete stop.. got out checked for damage, realized it was just the skid got back in and kept driving..

It depends where the axles are placed. In a 2 horse slant load they are placed as far back as possible. In a two horse straight load they are about a foot ahead of that placing. That can make a difference of 200 or more lbs on the tongue. If you install a weight distribution hitch (necessary) it will distribute the weight over the truck axles and send some back to the trailer axles as well. A trailer salesman will always say that your half ton can tow the trailers you are interested in. I towed a Mortiz steel 13' slant load 3200 lbs empty 725 lbs tongue weight with a distribution hitch. That is about the max tongue load I would go with and it is good to not load up the tack room with stuff you don't really need.
