shaking at higher speeds so I changed brakes and rotors...I have a new problem

    I got in this morning to go and seat the rotors. My first attempt at doing this!! Anyway, I had my windows down.... When I pulled out there was an immediate sound of rubbing (more rubbing than I would call it scraping) coming from my back brakes. Is this normal and will it go away once seated? I installed the Z36 kit from Powerstop because I tow a boat. I might also add that the caliper bolts were stripped out so I had to replace the caliper on the back driver side. I did check to see that the new caliper isn't hitting the dust cover or the dust cover was bent causing a noise. That doesn't seem to be the case. Any suggestions about what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

    I would still lean towards the dust cover behind the rotors. It may not be rubbing going straight but under tension or turning it might come in contact. Also see if the noise changes when you apply the emergency brake. That might point you towards the E brake shoes.

    Did you change out the e-brake shoes or pre-adjust them after installing new rear rotors?

    I had this same issue. After market upgrade rotors area little deeper than OEM and rub against the shields. You can find threads about it with the right combo of key words.

    A very frustrating issue. If you let them rub they will get extremely hot and possibly cause issues to the rotors, at least cosmetic. I was able to remove my wheels and take a large flat head screw driver and mallet and pound the dust shield back. You will be able to see where it is rubbing. Be careful if you do this as the screw driver might just right through the shield. I stopped 95% of the rubbing this way. I got it to where it only rubbed on hard (for a truck) cornering and then eventually that just went away after enough material was rubbed off.

    If I did it over again, I would ship those rotors back and buy OEM for the rear.

    Rubbing on the shields as stated, I have had two sets of Z36 rotors on my truck and both did it, mine rubbed the edge of the drum against the shield, hard to find, you need to take off the rotors and push the shields back a little.

    Are you all talking about the flimsy dust shields?! There’s no way that the rotor rubbing on a dust shield will cause it to shake on braking. None lol.

    Had this happen to my wife's Rav4 when I changed her rear brakes and rotors. Did exactly what was said earlier and used a crow bar and mallet to correct the problem. Easy fix.
