Joshua Tree and Mecca/Orocoppia in one week! Anyone want to go???

I have been busier than a uniball in a baby making contest this week. The Truck get an alignment today and we're gonna work on the UCA heims. Hopefully I can get the numbers I need. Then either tomorrow or Friday I get some new shoes; 37" Cooper STT Pro. then this weekend I have to take a hammer to my inner fenders and see what I can do about creating over an inch of additional clearance. Plus about a dozen little things I have to get done before the trip

Yeah I need an alignment finally. Has held good for 4yrs. but now my axles are rubbing on the coils so something is tweaked. Dropping Leafs off in the morning to be re-arched and bumps in the rear for now. Until new shocks are done I will run the MT. I may just keep the MT cause i have been burning thru my LT money on the house. Hot tub goes in this weekend.

Possible. I'm working on my rear bumper with a buddy over the next week though so that takes priority.

This group is too judgey for me. I want to be accepted for who I am, not how my rear end looks.

You can't make him one of those new millennials that never see outside the walls of the house. He has to get dirty and build up that immune system naturally. Otherwise you will pay for it the rest of his life. lol

I agree with you. She has this thing about him being able to walk so he’s not crawling around in the dirt all day. I’m pushing him to walk ASAP. Hahaha.

@n2deep Do you have tracks for the JT trip? Where and when are you guys meeting on Thursday? I’m deep in negotiations to sneak away for an overnighter. Thursday to Friday. I’ll be bringing the Land Cruiser so I won’t have a fridge or OBA yet. And I’ll be rocking the handheld. But I’ll gladly bring beers to restock your fridges and snacks.

I'm doing routes. We'll be south of I10 in the same area I told you about before. We'll have cell service so just let me know what time to expect you and we'll play marco polo until we find each other.

Already thinking about a May trip...

I made a lot of changes to The Truck recently. The ride has been completely transformed. New 3" leafs in the rear netted me a 4" lift when fully loaded. I discovered that my front coilovers were binding. Too much preload and springs too soft. I switched out the 700lbs coils for 800 lbs. Raised the front another inch. Adjusted the bypass tubes and softened the ride. My rear rebound was fully open before because I barely had any up-travel and I wanted the axle to droop out as fast as possible over the whoops. Now that I have a bunch of up-travel, I started playing with rebound. Initially I closed the tube completely (I have standard Fox rebound stacks) and it got super stiff on the road. A weird kind of stiff, I could literally feel each drop off the bumps in the road pulling my rear down. Then I opened the tube one turn (most of the tube adjustment on Foxs are within the first 3 turns) and it softened out. I still haven't tested on the trail, not sure I'll have time before Joshua Tree next week, but worst case I adjust during the trip.

I also finally got an alignment that I am happy with. 5 years I've had The Truck and it's never been properly aligned. I had to have the upper heims adjusted. I'm at 6 degrees caster both sides, -0.5 camber both sides, and 0.8 toe in. My drivers side is still a little higher than the passenger, but I'll deal with it later.

37" cooper stt pro go on in t minus 4 hours... then I am going to drink beer and smash the truck with a hammer to make room...

I'm going to have six 35s for sale if anyone is interested. 4 ko2 and 2 ko

$600 for four ko2, $100 for two ko

The four ko2 have good tread. Two of them are 90% and barely chunked, the other two are 75% with chunks

The two ko are 25% but even wear

It was cranked down so much in order to lift the truck that when I stuffed the wheels the springs collapsed all the way and all the coils were touching

oooooo did you think about just replacing with new 700lb springs? youve been running those ones hard for a couple years, metal fatigues? do the 800s have any preload in em?

All coils have "preload". Thats just a bullsht word for adjusting the spring collar to set ride height.

Yeah I thought about replacing the coils with 700# because maybe they were "tired", but I decided to try the 800# because I wanted a little more lift anyways. It worked out great. you'll see in a couple days. I got another inch lift and the spring collar sits almost an inch higher than before. Right in the middle of the range of adjustment. They are a tad stiffer, but I reduced compression in the ride height and now they feel the same as before. I think I just had too much weight for 700# coils. The handling is amazing! The job of the coils is to hold the truck up and control body roll. The job of the valving is to control suspension movement. I can now corner without The Truck leaning way over like a boat. Off road they are still plush but I can take much bigger hits now.

MT coilover leverage is different than LT so you have to keep that in mind when thinking about the proper coil size. I should have changed mine a long time ago
