I've been watching a lot of 4WD-24/7 (formerly 4WD Action) lately and the stainless snorkels are the go-to down in Oz now. I would love to have one for my 1GT. I think the A pillar still presents a bit of a hurdle for mounting the upper section.

We haven’t used any. We just hang far enough back to not eat a ton of dust.

Oh, we get dusted out by our own ride, pretty sure it gets sucked in the front doors from the front tires, it gets road sodas ultra dusty and gritty…..

    Is OZ Australia?
Again on the 4R, my TJM attaches to the face of the a pillar but it’s not executed the best, I don’t think our tundras have side curtain air bags like the 4R so it should be even easier to pop some trim off and get a solid mounting point.

I keep seeing Aussie trucks with snorks and no head, straight pipe almost aimed backwards and that’s it…… I wonder if there’s a method to this madness?

Today I took a ratchet strap to the snorkel head, pulled it towards the A pillar and took a heat gun to it. We will see how well it stays…

Do you have one of those fancy engine data readers? It'd be interesting to see what the IAT sensor sees compared with ambient, on a hot day where the snorkle sits in the sun, might be worth 1/2 a mpg.

Well after my last mpg tank data, I actually lost 0.2 mpg with the snorkel on. Based on miles driven and gallons added to tank

    For future searches and reference…

So, here’s the deal… When I first installed my snorkel, I kind of did it half assed. Yes, I did attach it to the airbox so it’s been drawing air and has been watertight this entire time (before you ask).
Because this design is for a LC and not for our trucks, it requires a little massaging to get it right. (I now understand why the guy in the video took his fender off to do the job the first time)
There are five studs on the backside of the snorkel base that attach to washers and nuts on the backside of the fender. I was only ever able to get 4 of those to attach. The stud furthest to the rear never had a nut on it and I was never able to get a washer on to the stud farthest forward. This is something that only I knew about and has always bothered me since install.
After taking the heat gun to the snorkel and since it has been on long enough to have molded itself somewhat to the fender from the weather, I felt that it was now time to attempt to secure it properly.
Fender liner off, apply pressure to the area where the studs are. Attach washers and lock nuts accordingly. Tighten to enough arm strength to feel that it’s secure and not to rip out the studs on the snorkel base.
    Job done!
I don’t know that any damage would have ever been done had I left it the way that it was. But for my own piece of mind, I know that it’s as secure as possible now.
While I was at it, I figured I would ratchet strap the snorkel closer to the A pillar (again) and take the heat gun to it to see if I could mold it any closer. I believe now that this is the final product.

Likely due to added wind drag. But I agreed with B, it would be nice to see the IAT numbers. As that is something I monitor on my scanguage

Scanguage is in the cart. Has been for a while. Not pulling the trigger just yet. Saving up for the engine reseal this spring.

Im curious how this has held up. Typically when you see a snorkel actually designed for a vehicle its neck is flush up agains the vehicle. Since this is Jimmy rigged you can see a huge gap. Has driving at high speeds over time loosened the snorkel because of this gap?

Nope. Snorkel is not loose at all on the fender, nor does it shake or move around at hwy speeds. I even run it through a cloth car wash once a week.
