Put a few more miles on the truck today. Power steering is still working great and hasn’t puked any more. I believe I’ve got all the bubbles out.
I’m somewhat paranoid about reliability issues so I’m not taking any longer trips in it for a little while. However it seems like it’s running really well and even broke the tires loose today on dry concrete. :eek2: It idles well and I’m getting 14.3V from the alternator at idle.
I’m trying to take it easy today and rest and relax. The past week has wiped me out pretty good.
I may put the 2nd seat and dash trim back in tonight.

If you’ve seen my painting thread you know I’m struggling with the paint and specifically the paint on the hood.
I’m waiting until I work out my painting technique to start on the doors.
Here’s a shot of the hood and some of the truck outside.

Found out that the lights and grille for a 98-00 Tacoma do not bolt up to a 95.5-97 core support. So starts the search for sealed beam lights. I’ll grab a grille and fender off of rockauto after my wallet recovers.

    Still plugging away on things.
Working on getting the paint job finished up. The doors are half way done being painted.

Interior is mostly together. I can’t find the steering column trim unfortunately.
I ordered a new grille from Rockauto. I found the headlights I want just waiting for more cash.

I also installed my dual map light.
The new truck was a base model whereas my old one was a fully optioned DLX.
The map light that came with it was only 1 single light and the plastic was broken.
I had to cut holes in the headliner to reach the extra 2 screw holes. I love how Toyota has a way to easily upgrade things like this.

Well the interior is put together 100% minus some junk on the center stack. Not too worried about that for the mean time.
Doors are on and functioning properly.
Haven’t got fenders, lights or the correct grille yet.
Hood is adjusted and working properly. That was a bitch.

Today I got the in cab winch controller re-installed and working. Talk about a pain. Glad I took pictures of where all the wires went on the back side of it. 9 connections total.
    7658D9CB-F4C0-465D-AE48-B934DA72590E.jpg

I’m more or less now 100% functional compared to when I rolled it. No leaks from the crawl box which is nice. Paint came out better than expected in most places.

Thanks Dan! I appreciate that. Hopefully next month I can start on the flat bed.
Also hoping to go wheeling for the New Years holiday. Should be fun!

Yesterday I hit a junk yard after a tip from a friend that some early Tacomas had shown up fairly recently. The trip was ~110 miles and I hauled ass. Probably averaging 80mph (a bit of a workout for a 4cyl truck on 40's). The truck did well. That re-assured me that the reliability factor is still there.
I need some headlights and headlight buckets so I was hoping to hit pay dirt.
Well, there were no usable headlights that would work. Oh well.
While I was there however I did manage to get a fuse box cover because I lost mine somehow.
I also found a clean fender from a 4Runner. So now that I have a new left side fender to match my old right side fender, I am going to start painting those. The fender needs some clean up and a radius cut to clear the tires, then paint.

I also got a fuel level sending unit. I managed to dent my tank about 8 or 9 years ago while wheeling. I mangled the fuel level float and rod at the same time. Since then I have not had a working fuel gauge nor did I care enough to spend $50 or more for a new one. I simply kept an eye on my mileage by resetting the TRIP A after every fill up and would make sure to fill up again before 150 miles (14 or 15 usable gallons, 10-14 mpg). Well the used level sender was 12 bucks. I knocked the rust off of it and cleaned it up a bit. Best $12 I ever spent!

Also found this pretty fun picture from a year or so ago. Maybe thanksgiving last year? That was a fun line..

Thank you! I appreciate that. Makes me feel like the hard work was worth it.

Lights and grille arrived today. I wasn’t able to afford the fancy badass LED lights that I wanted but oh well. These will do for now. I have always liked this style front end the best. Lucky it came out this way.

Gonna work on the fenders this coming week.

So I was putting off the fenders because I was dreading having to fill in the mounting holes for the OE fender flares from the 4Runner I pulled the fender from.
I started cutting small pieces of sheet metal to fill in the holes.. a minute or two later I gave up on that. So.. I'm looking at actually getting around to painting those soon.
I also got the PSC high pressure power steering pump kit. Bracket is sold separately so I'm waiting on that to install it.
Also ordered up the tubing bender and air over hydro ram for it. Went with Rogue fab. It seemed to make the most sense.
It's looking like I'll be able to make the New Years run with at least the fenders and the new power steering system. Cage will come after that.

Power steering pump upgrade is done. Seems to work great. Won't know how it helps off-road until next week.
To mount the reservoir properly it has to be a certain height above the pump. Well after mockup it was clear I was going to have to cut through the hood. Not wanting to cut through my art on the hood.. this was about the best I could do. The reservoir is a bit higher than it needs to be because I was mocking everything up with the pump clocked wrong (oops). Oh well. Whats done is done and it doesn't look bad.
Fenders are painted. Decided not to mess around with clear coat on them. They look fine with a nice even glossy finish. :)

Thanks man. I want to get the flat bed built so badly. It looks too short and stubby and weird with nothing back there. But otherwise I am happy with how it came out.

So I wasn’t able to make the New Years run at Wolf Caves. However, the weekend after New Years I took my new girlfriend to Hidden Falls. It was a quick day trip mainly to test things and get her feet wet Offroad. She loved it. I broke my rear ring and pinion. Had to pull the rear driveshaft and drive home in FWD. So the truck sits while I save for a new rear diff.

On the flip side, I got my tube bender up and running and made a little progress on the bumper. The cage will wait until after the rear end is fixed.

Thank you! She’s a keeper (the bumper and the GF)!
I was a bit concerned I may not have the smarts to operate the bender and bend tube correctly according to my design visions. However, after knocking out the bumper correctly I am much more confident in my abilities. I can’t wait to start the cage!

Added some more support to the bumper. Tacked these in and checked for tire clearance at full bump.. plenty of room. I still want to build a stinger and headlight hoops but for now at least I can bash things if I need to.
