Been a long wait, waited 6 months to get the wheels back in DEC 2021, Tires had been on backorder since last year and they JUST arrived. Waiting another 4-6wks on the BDS kit now. It's allllll happening. (The 5th wheel and tire both arrived a day or two later) 282185184_2959778370991526_8298860535892304475_n.jpg 283564193_509169264288210_1641191914593935340_n.jpg

You and me both. I originally told the installer to please torque then and not use a impact gun. He kinda gave me this crazy look and began working. I kept looking and hearing to make sure I didn’t hear and impact gun. 2 hours later and tells me all done. Torqued by hand because he knew I didn’t want the lugs messed up or over torqued, which he said he did 110lbs but I can just loosen them and re-torque on my next oil change in 2k miles. Also very little weights where used. On my OEM there was a bunch used. Guess that’s the difference between a road force balance machine and ancient machine that probably hasn’t been calibrated in forever.

I wondered the same thing. Stainless M6x8 bolts are impossible to find in black right now. The black oxide ones that are all over the place will rust and stain the wheels. I ordered these plastic ones to potentially try.

You already checked and M6x8 is the correct size?

There’s a big thread on the Tacoma forum that discusses this topic in depth. They said M6x8 is the true size and M6x10 will work with a little overhang.

Painted mine, wrapped the inside of my 10mm socket but there's still some nicks here and there after reinstalling. Will keep an eye out for stainless m6x8 to replace the lot. thanks for the info.

Please report back on your findings. I have had a set of them on my cart since before the wheels arrived. But plastic… can’t help but think they’d fade over time? Leaning towards painting them…

I agree with your concerns on the plastic ones, but their cheap and disposable if need be. Painting the original ones are a hit and miss. I’ve read that many that took that route had paint peeling/chipping off which looks even worse in my eyes. My plan is to keep the SCS bolts as they are and can always return to the original look if desired..

It’s probably best and wait till that VTXwheel place gets them back in. I decided not to paint mine or have them powder coated.

Im definitely going to keep my eye on the VTX bolts, but from what I understand they have been out for quite some time now.

I think the key to a perfect paint job is prep work. I have a sand blaster at work. So blasting them first and then maybe a primer coat would go a long way. Or hitting them with some sand paper or something to scratch them up some. It’s work but it would probably work better. Also, I know this is long term but I am not to fond of SS and aluminum together. So some anti-seeze would also go a long way when reinstalling. Just being ocd, kinda.
