I thought Valentines Day is politically incorrect nowadays like everything else.

My wife and I never used to do any thing for v day but as my girls are getting older I get something for my wife and my two daughters and make a point to be about all the girls. I do things through out the year too but I give a little extra effort for v day...and for one reason...they say girls grow up to marry their dad so it's my point to be the biggest baddest fucking sweetheart my girls know.

Well guys I'm screwed. I agree with the commercialism and crap and wish I could save the money for a day when flowers aren't 10x more expensive. But she doesn't. My wife loves Valentine's Day so I have to do something special for her. Always get flowers and take her out to a nice dinner. Usually a present too but sometimes we have said not to because of other financial obligations.

The hardest part that stresses me out is to make it special in some way. Like making her pop red balloons to find notes and her present. I have ran out of ideas and am stuck this year.

Also I will be out of town on the 14th for work. Will celebrate this weekend instead but I know on the 14th she will be sad that I'm gone. So the special thing I should do has to be arranging a surprise while I'm gone. Can have my parents help but I can't think of what I want to do.

Exactly. I have dinner scheduled and a small present so far. Going to get a card and some flowers today. Will have flowers delivered to her work on the 14th. Just have to figure out a bit more.

Last year I took her out to dinner the night before, why pay extra to be crammed into an over-capacity restaraunt with a special overpriced menu? More often then not, I've cooked her dinner at home- crab, steak, the like. Card and overpriced roses always. 12 years married this June, feels like 12 minutes...

You could make a list of 72 things you love about her. One for every month you two have been married. Could write her a letter listing them or write them on index cards and hide them throughout the house so she can find them on Valentine's as you direct her to each one.

Last one may be a little much work for both of you but maybe halfsies (half in the letter/card and the rest she'd find?)

Similar to what I did last year but in balloons that she had to pop. Before reading your post walking around target I did figure out what I was going to do. Write love notes on these foam hearts. Now something you said that I think I'm going to is hid them around the house. She might find some before I leave but the ones she doesn't I can direct her to on the phone while I'm gone.
