I own a black platinum and I’ve noticed a couple of different occasions after taking it home from being serviced it had scratches around it that we’re not there before. One real bad part was on the bumper where it was obviously camouflaged with touch up paint. Needless to say I was not happy but it was either hours or days after I noticed I know what you’re thinking it could’ve happened anywhere. But I normally drive a work truck and when I do go anywhere with the tundra I park far away from anyone. Plus the touch up paint is a dead giveaway. So my only thought now is before I take it in for any type of service is to walk around with somebody maybe even videoing it and then walk around with them when I pick it up. Am I crazy?

I would definitely ask the service rep to walk around the truck before and after just like rental car companies do. Or just take it to a different dealership

    That’s tough.

your story makes me consider taking a good cellphone pic of each end and each side of my truck prior to service, in good light. Or a slow video walk around before taking the truck in. Then, it’s time stamped if something does happen.

I don’t know if I personally would try to force a walk-around with them.

The dealer I have been to does a walk around with you before taking possession of the vehicle. They don’t afterwards but I guess that’s on you and if something is found can be disputed. I would do something like that from here on out. Either with your phone or the service advisor at drop off. They had a paper they filled out just like when you pick up a rental car.

My local dealer does a walk around but I have gotten in the habit of taking pictures at several angles before turning it over to anyone doing work on it. If it’s been days then they are going to come back with “that could have happened anywhere” but worth the touch up paint - you obviously know you didn’t touch it up so I would take the back and demand it be put back to the condition before they worked on it.

That’s what I was thinking as well. I’m usually not very confrontational but the touch up paint is bullshit and I’d definitely be having a talk with the service manager.
