Yeah I’ve never done snow living in San Diego . But also living in San Diego anything left in your bed tends to be stolen.

That’s just a part of life bro! Shit like that do happen. Even though, it’s kind of ironic in your case, it could have well been the opposite if you had a Ram 2500. Shit.... I have had to get one of my M1 tank that was stuck in an ice crater, back in Bosnia in 1994, pull out by a smaller M113 track vehicle.

If it will make your boss lady wifey feel any better and cut you some slack, show her the video of the Toyota Tundra pulling the Space Shuttle below. :)

snow tires help a tremendous amount. big beefy knobby tires do nothing in the snow and the big nobbies act like hockey pucks when they get cold.

i have 2 tundras. the one for work has snow tires for plowing. the other is my personal/work truck with nitto trail grapplers and a 3 " lift.

i was just arranging them in my yard after a big snow fall and my double cab with the lift and trail grapplers would barely move and had to take off traction control in 4 ×4 mode to get out. the single cab with snow tires had no problem. you could hear the tires actually squeaking on the snow. stopping and turning is also greatly improved.

this is the first car i ever had snow tires on and can't believe the difference. any new car i buy from now on i will also buy a set of cheap rims and snow tires for it.
I live in n.j. so we need them for about 3 month. not only is it safer but will also prolong the all season tires seeing that they will now only be used for 9 months instead of 12.

the right tires will help a tremendous amount.

since you are on pavement, put it in reverse, floor it, and wait for the heat from the spinning tires to melt the snow around your truck :)

Some good advice on here, but let’s not forget what we are looking at. Speed wouldn’t help, he would have just harpooned himself into the rather large brown things with bark, branches, needles....

He was just dicking around and got stuck. I’m not sure I would have done well in that packed snow with my Jeep on 40s and locked. Snow is not easy to navigate at a dead stop and sunk.

Hell, this is a 500+LS3 powered Jeep on 40’s, locked F&R and a run at it. Still stuck.

Only one way to learn. I only know because I've almost gotten stuck on my driveway trying to climb over snow piles left by the plow trucks after a snow storm LOL

Seeing that you didnt get off far into the snow i gotta ask....

Was 4x4 actually engaged and active once stuck

    Or

Did you try to activate it while the wheels were already slipping

Assuming you tried first in 4hi and then activated 4low?

Did you actually attempt to get unstuck in 4low?

Did you allow 4low to work for you? Allow wheel spin/RPMs to climb and allow the electronics time and conditions to do their thing?

Just posting that pic getting stuck 10ft off the road, saying "4x4 didnt work" leaves MANY open questions.

I’ve gotten stuck in snow before. Ended up jacking the truck up and installing chains right where it sat. It was a one wheel drive F150 LOL

From the picture it appears that you ran over a small melted-down snowbank that had re-frozen and then sunk in. Some of the worst type of snow to drive through. Fresh, loose snow is much, much easier. Snow that’s been through a few freeze / thaw cycles or rain is a tough animal, as it is crusty and tough to push through, but offers next to no traction as it stays grainy and loose under your tires.

I keep a shovel in my truck at all times and a shovel would be my weapon if choice here, if a friendly tug wasn’t available. Dig out under the truck and behind the tires and you’d be out.

I wouldn’t bet on no trouble in that spot with my Duratrac tires and V-bar chains on the rear to be honest, but things like that help immensely.

The best weapon is knowledge and knowing your limits, which is the hardest to aquire - usually by making mistakes and learning from them. Don’t snow wheel alone as a newb would be my final advice.

True but point was that it was the truck my wife wanted me to get. I'm sure any car would have worked but that truck was bad ass. Too bad I didn't catch a pic.

Hmm ok so drove on it, parked and came back 3 hours later.

Kind of wish you tried 4low and saw what atrac might have been able to do.

What doesn't help this situation is this, in addition to what others said about the snow/ice pack.
You parked a hot vehicle on something that goes through phase changes. Ever wonder why intersections suck in snow climates? All the vehicles sitting at the light "thaw" the top layer of ice/snow/etc. They drive off and with the proper temps, that melt then refreeze. This goes on and on as you can imagine. This turns that surface to glass. I feel this is similar or an added contribution to what ypu experienced.
