Yes the application has been around but, not for serious truck usage where large trailers for towing are the norm. Not for serous off road applications where reliability is a must have and could be the difference between life and death.
Full size trucks? nah, not accepted or they would of been in frames for years also.

That’s because they’re all diesels for folks towing large trailers all the time. I think we all know most tundras are used as commuter cars and towing large trailers isn’t a thing. a TTv6 will be just fine.

On paper, but highly unlikely in the real world.

You are probably right but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt on this. Personally I really don't care about my mileage.

I drive 40,000+ miles per year so mileage matters to me. Not expecting 30 mpg but over 20 would be nice

I think people will calm down in a couple years when they are averaging 18 mpg in a Crewmax, pulling their trailers just fine and doing 0-60 in the low 6s or 6 flat.

You may get better MPGs from the newer engine if it's only you in the truck, and you don't tow or haul anything.

I grew up driving V8 vehicles. I grew up in a family that restored vehicles and rebuilt small- and big-block V8’s. I’m a fan. Love the V8 in my Tundra!

    But consider:

Toyota has never rolled a piece of unreliable, over-hyped shit off to consumers. Their reliability and quality have held consistently high for DECADES. Even their newer vehicles go hundreds of thousands of miles on basic maintenance and minor repairs, while most other automakers have spewed out pap.

What if we still boarded prop planes to travel internationally... because of their mystique? Because they sound cool? Stupid.

This “shoot me today because I fear tomorrow” is hysterics.

Toyota is going to build an engine that improves performance and still gives us all wood. They are good at it.

Most of us will probably be outlived by our trucks and their belly-o-fire V8’s, even if we are seduced into buying whatever Toyota rolls in the next couple of years. I think they know us better than we think they do. Hang onto your V8’s.... let’s eat popcorn and see what happens.

I hope there are no government tax-payer funded subsidies offered on any of the new trucks, that is a lose / lose situation for everyone.

    I agree. Vehemently agree.

    It'll never happen.

Here's the thing. I have a 3.5 TT ecoboost in a taurus SHO that's pushing 365 hp and pulling around a 4400lb car. It gets 17 mpg avg, 20 on road trips.

Now l don't know the full details of this new ttv6 but it's going to be pulling around a LOT bigger vehicle both in weight and frontal area. 20 mpg will be near impossible.

I don't think it's a fear of the future for the ttV6. Just look at how far the V8s have come from the beginning. It's the fact that you're using a smaller engine, then putting boost on top of it to make it work like a V8.

So pretty much take what import guys do with their cars. It's the same principal and they were lambasted by the community for not just buying something with a bigger engine.

A ttV6 in a truck is just a step backwards as far as I'm concerned. If anything they need a step up in size, then follow what GM did with the displacement thing. Cut off as many cylinders as needed. That's the best of both worlds. When I had my 14 chevy 1500 I'd avg 20 mpg all day long.

How many lifters did that Chevy blow because of the cylinder deactivation system?

I got told by my wife at the time we couldn't afford it so I had to sell it after 3 months. I got to put maybe 2000 miles on it. But, I don't see why toyota couldn't take that system and improve on it.

I'm starting to reconsider my stance on this. Take it with a grain of salt since I'll never buy a new truck.

Didn't Toyota use the 1uze-fe motor in the Lexus LS series for years before modifying it and dropping it into a truck as the 2uze-fe?

I believe they have used a twin turbo v6 in the Lexus since at least 2018. That means its been worked out and a bit of tuning will make it more truck-worthy.

I would still prefer the simplicity of a naturally aspirated v8 any day for a truck that is expected to do truck shit. If its just a commuter/weekend warrior a V6 TT should be great.

This is why the AFM delete is a thing in the GM world. Seems like there's a consistent need to rebuild the motor at 100k miles, give or take. Or you just disable AFM/cylinder deactivation and let the normal Chevy things break instead.

If the next Tundra kept the same engine, I could look at all the photos of the fancy new exterior and interior, look at the head unit that will only be 5 years behind the competition instead of 10… but comfort myself with “Well, behind all the bells and whistles it’s still the same truck as mine.”

But now I won’t be able to comfort myself with that anymore. So with that said, bring back the V8!

Sir, you make assumptions to support your statement. You cannot say they're ALL diesels and you can't say we all know because you don't.
Toyota trucks are used in large amounts as fleet vehicles for one.
The TTv6 will have an abnormal amount of reliability issues, you can count on it.
Do they work through them? sure but it will take a few years.
Will they loose sales from previous Tundra owners? you can bet on it.
Just don't make assumptions when you don't have the answers.
    Peace / out..

Mercedes had a press conference many years ago and one of the announcements was their research into a cylinder deactivation system. Someone in the audience asked if it would be like GM's 4/6/8 system. The engineer answered "Yes, but we would, of course, require ours to work properly."

So why is it we're only allowed to make hydrogen if it's green (or maybe blue) but EVs are fine? How much of our electricity is green or even blue?

They still are destroying them even in the new trucks. I’m still amazed how the owners complain they are on their 2nd or 3rd set of lifters but will still keep buying Chevy trucks.
