Toyota has been building turbocharged engines for 30 years+. The TT6 which is likely to end up in the Tundra has already been in service for a number of years. It will be tuned for a truck but I trust it. The odds are good that the only thing you'll sacrifice is that sweet V8 rumble.

It's not about resistance to change - it's knowing what you like and don't like - and I like a NA V-8. Doesn't mean that I would never consider a TT V-6, but given a choice, I would take a NA V-8 - even at the expense of gas mileage.

Toyota made the 2JZ. It is one of the best turbo engines ever made.

I love my V8, but a 3JZ… twin turbo iron block straight 6 hybrid. Dreaming though.

Hybrids have been around for a long time now as well...decade or better.

I get it..I am of the same mindset. I don't like change for change sakes. Neighbor bought an Audi Q8. Technology in that vehicle is off the charts...but when he was showing it to me...I kept thinking...so what? Do I really need all that? And more importantly...could I even remember how to use it all? I think it is a hard no to both of those.

#1. If history tells us anything it’s that there will be a strong secondary market for proven drivetrains (see 4.7L)
#2. I’d love for them to go at least PHEV (that’s “plug in hybrid”) with a 25 mile electric range or so. Let’s be honest most tundras aren’t working the ranch or “over landing” every day.

adding my name to the Save the V8 list.... ever since driving one, I don't think I could personally go back to a V6, no matter how tried/true they are.

What is the most miles has anyone ever gotten out of a twin turbo anything let alone loading it down with a trailer.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    “Anything” With twin turbos?

There’s lots of stuff running around towing or moving serious tonnage that has one or more turbochargers.

Would you like to learn about twin turbo V12 medium speed diesels that live their lives pulling or shoving 19,000 ton trains? How about V16 single turbo two stroke medium speed diesels doing the same job? Or class 8 trucks? Or low speed marine diesels?

    Function before sparkle.
How about the twin turbo diesel that has been in the world market Land Cruisers since 2007? More than proven engine.

If they won't give us a V8, can they give us dual 2.9 liter vvti 4 cylinders? Dual motors is a fair compromise right?

How many miles was the question. We are not talking diesel. I have nothing against diesels.DSC_0040 (1).jpg DSC_0038.jpg

I would like my two 2.9L conjoined VVTI I4's to also have turbos. Can we do that too?

Only if they have intercoolers and an ECU that can be flashed for an extra 100hp and 100tq per motor. Thats a reasonable request.

Love V8's, love diesels but in that one example above, it's electric motors doing that work. The diesels in trains are not attached to the drive wheels, they're only generating electricity. If you think the engine in a locomotive is big, imagine the transmission if it had one! YIKES!!

Yeah I’m well aware of that seeing as how I’ve had a federal license as a locomotive engineer for 10 years now. If you don’t think the load experienced by those engines turning the generator or alternator is strenuous I’ve got news for you.

Put my name down to save the V8. I bought a 2021 just because I heard they were killing it for good. The only way it comes back is if their decision hurts them. Right now it’s twin turbo V6 and right after a hybrid. Toyota V8 has been killed for now.

Exactly, they’re going to the office or getting groceries, and most likely those folks probably don’t need a truck at all

The key to saving the V8 is for none of us to buy anything else they offer.

I was reading an article this morning about the new "iForce Max" V6 twin turbo engine that everyone is speculating will be in the 2022. It would be a shame if it was only 409 horsepower like so many folks are speculating. The current V8 puts out 380. Add long tube headers and a guy can get another 50 horsepower out of it. That's 430 horsepower. Add a turbo for 550 horsepower. The only advantage of the twin turbo V6 would be gas mileage. I will stick with the V8.
