San Diego off-road meets

I figured that this would be a good spot to put any potential trail runs up, so here it goes. I'm hitting the desert with a group of TacomaWorld members on Sunday. We're meeting up at noon this Sunday at an empty lot next to a gas station in Julian. We'll be going through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park through trails such as Fish Creek and possibly up the Diablo Dropoff. Who's interested?

I'm interested, I might go a little before then too. March 12th is a ways out. Gotta break in the new truck

 

Would you prefer to meet up in San Diego or out in Ocotillo? I was thinking of starting just north of the border and heading north from there.

I'm not all that familiar with California. So whichever is closer to Newport I could meet you at.

 

Newport, like Newport Beach? I suppose that neither are close to where you live. This would be closer but still provide fine access to the desert. I always like to get going earlier rather than later; would meeting up at 0900 be good for you?

Bump, someone else who lives next to all this beautiful desert must be interested.

 

I was thinking of hitting the desert again on April 9 in the morning. Either starting from Borrego Springs and heading south or north from Ocotillo. Any interest? Here's some video from my last run just north of the border.

Heya, just got here - love to have someone to go run around with. Heard the Sub conversations - you the bubblehead or your buddy? (Ex one here...you may be too young, but to verify - Rat Sh*t, Bat Sh*t, Dirty Rotten ****)

 

I was on the San Francisco for four years. Old, broken, and waiting to die (it tried to anyway), and now it's about to convert to a Moored Training Ship. Nothing accelerates your life like standing SRO. What's the saying come from? I was thinking of doing the next desert run in a few weeks. Do you have any preference for trails? Pictures of your truck?

 

Hey, I did my time on the Dolphin and 637 class boats (Puffer and Pogy)...little before your time I guess Every boat/ship (some things with a Canadian FF, rode the Midway, did a quick tour on HMS Splendid, a workup on the Coronado, etc) is now a reef or a museum. Sheesh.

No preferences on trails for me, I have not had a chance to beat around this area (always going on longer trips, and when a day drive comes up...mountains are cooler ). Different bumpers now, but this is mine:

I was not there when it hit the mountain, thankfully. I got there shortly after it left the yards in Bremerton. It really is amazing that someone thought is was cheaper to try and fix the San Fran instead of refueling the Honolulu. When I showed up to the 711 in 2010 the Navy didn't seem to be PC yet. It's amazing how things can change in a few short years. Here are some shots of my truck:

Thank you. It'll be a few weeks before I hit the desert or mountains again. Do you know anyone else who would be interested in going through some trails? What do you think of night runs? I am now...Officially Jealous! Did you install yourself? This sounds weird, but some of the best money I've spent was on the Diamondback cover - Despite some design decisions I don't agree with (and am changing) it's awesome. Truly secure storage, great sleeping platform, can still carry 1500 Lbs on top, and great seating for concerts, drive in's or...just having lunch

I'd do a night run, north of the 8 anyway . Know a guy or two that might be up for some runs.

 

I wish I had the skills of a differential mechanic. I went to a man who lives in Vista by the name of Jason to work on my truck. He's a skilled mechanic and welder and I would highly recommend him for any work on your truck.

It's been a while since I've posted here. Work got stupid, I got distracted, and then I got PRK. Anyone interested in heading to Big Bear in the next couple of weeks?

 

There are some runs to Anza-Borrego being organized on Tacomaworld from 10-21 to 10-23 for any who are interested.

 

Someone has to be interested in taking their truck offroad and showing the Tacoma owners what real power looks like.
