man I love the look of smart caps, even looks good on a long bed. Do you have the rear view mirror camera? And did you relocate the camera or are you just planning on not using it now that it’s blocked by the cap? That’s what’s holding me back from buying a cap and losing that feature.

My truck does not have a digital rearview mirror thankfully. The bed camera still works. IMG_20240217_183241.jpg

Thanks for the photos! yea it came on my truck so that’s what has been holding me back from a cap. But damn do the smart caps look so good! You get so much more utility with a cap, but I might just have to stick to a cover as I really don’t want to relocate the camera. Good looking truck by the way!

Here's the relocation kit people use with a digital rearview mirror.

My understanding is the digital rear view camera works with the Tundra Edition cap, but may not be 100% view. I just finished assembling mine and hope to install it tomorrow. I post a picture of the rear view after I install it.

Sorry if this has already been answered but does anyone transport their dogs in this? I have 3 that go back and forth between Sacramento and Tahoe. Would the black metal be a problem? How effective are the vents on the side? Should I just get a fiberglass shell?

I wouldn't leave my dog in for a long period, even with the vents open. The radiant heat can get rather uncomfortable. I added a sheet of white PVC the underside of the top and plan to insulate. I bought some thick dynamat from Amazon's used/return bin I plan to use.

Thanks for the photos! Doesn’t look like it interferes much with the rear view camera. Might look at them again down the road. Bought a diamondback cover and I think that will probably work for what I need right now. But now I know if I do go down this route it will work without relocating the camera.

Anyone with a Pro and a SmartCap have any photos they could share? Thinking about adding one.

Initially, I thought I would need to add additional lighting. However, the factory lighting on the truck is sufficient for my use.

Is anyone getting any below MSRP deals? And how much are dealers charging for install? I’m in Colorado if that helps.

I have put the pups in the back for rides around town but it hasn’t gotten hot here yet. I have the Evo Sport with the sliding windows. They can be locked in a few positions depending upon the size of opening you want. As you can see in this pic, wide open is too big for one of my pups. IMG_7746.jpg

two buddies (I trust)and a 2x4. Flipping it is the hardest part. Saved a few hundred doing it myself and cap-it.ca was great if your in Canada. The closest dealer was way to far away for me and they shipped it shipped right to my front door. The quality it’s phenomenal and great customer service from smartcap Texas .
Edit: waiting for delivery is the hardest part
Note: three leaky Sierra tri-folds in the background. The cap doors are great for not getting wet while your hunting for something in the box while it’s raining. As long as your not parked on a steep angle and it’s not a downpour the rain still doesn’t wick inside while the doors are open. :monocle:

Very happy with this cap so far, any tips for keeping two dogs cool in the summer? Otherwise they will be back up front trashing the cab IMG_0596.jpg IMG_0597.jpg

I bought a couple rolls of 1/2" dynamat to install on the roof, under a sheet of 1/2" PVC I cut to fit and bolted under the roof structure. I plan to add foil-faced dynamat to the sides, cut window shades and finally add a fan.

With the Smartcap installed, would my TRD Pro still fit in my standard garage? The pictures seem like the top of the cap is a few inches higher than the top of the roof, maybe a little higher than the shark fin. I am really considering one of these but not being able to park in my garage would be a deal killer for me personally. Thanks for any help.

I’d say it’s about 1.5” higher including the bump and the roof rail tracks. Maybe a little less since the cap it’s self is very heavy on the springs. Also keep in mind the shark fin is the highest point.

Flipping was the hardest part for me too. Felt like it was going to break if we set it down mid-flip, but grips and weight sucked during the flip.

Anyone else having issues with their new locks (the ones that can be opened from the inside) popping open on their own? Even when locked.

I haven't noticed that happening with mine. Do you think you have the tension too tight?

I have dealt with the D rubber around the tailgate area falling apart from rubbing too much on the tailgate every time I open and close the tailgate.

Same. I was going to ask if anyone else’s is super tight. I have to dang near yank my tailgate down and slam it shut.
