As of right now they’re only making Tacoma caps in Texas. The 3rd gen tundra is next, starting in October. So if you have a 3rd gen it may be worth the wait! The caps coming out of Texas are much better than the SA plant caps.

My biggest complaint about my SnugTop is all the dust that comes in the back window when driving down a dusty road.

The rear window of the Smartcap looks like it seals very well.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

For an RSI cap on a Tundra, we recommend a 1345mm wide load bar. This will give you the most surface area to work with and the gullwings won't hit the load bar.

I received confirmation from SmartCap HQ that 2022+ Tundra 5.5 ft. bed Evo and Evo Adventure caps are being produced now.

The 6.5 ft. bed option will be subsequent.

Same here, but my dealer says the wait could be long because caps first go to warehouse (15 days) and then get allocated. Their facebook account said they produced "5" caps. At this rate I reckon we are waiting a year. Hopefully their production ramps up!
Now I am kicking myself for putting in the deposit. Should have gone for something else.

This is the first I’ve heard of GFC topper having leak issues… Where are you seeing this?

The lack of cold-weather latch function is 100% a deal breaker. I'd buy tomorrow if a dealer would either A: replace the latch once the new one comes out or B: If Smartcap just shipped with the new latch. They've been in "design" for at almost a year...So I'm not optimistic they will bee ready anytime soon.

I had the smartcap on my previous Taco and loved it. I reached out and they sent me the caps for the latches and it completely prevented any freezing and issues last winter in CO/UT. I did like the windows for the dogs and found the size of the gullwings were amazing for getting just about anything in/out when I had a bike rack on the back. I also found that while driving around southern UT it did a great job at mitigating dust compared to a previous truck with an older Leer top.

I just made the move to a Tundra and think another smartcap is the way I'm leaning.

Looks great! Are you still able to use the bed camera through the window opening the cap has for the bed lights?

Yes, both cameras are usable, however the rear view camera view is a bit on the low side. So you have to use it in conjuction with side mirrors. The top part is blocked but the rear window opaque part. I will share pics later this week about how it looks in real life.

Its still quite usable, but not perfect, i.e. you cannot see above a certain level so 100% need the side view mirrors.

Really not bad at all for what it’s going through. Thanks for sharing. You mind sharing one of the bed view camera?
Security screen looks good. Did it come with that as well or did you do that extra?

Thanks for all the good info! I really liked my previous smartcap and this pretty solidifies going with it again. Had the table and it was a really slick way of having one all the time.

I've had both the RSI and GFC on my old Tacoma. I think any info people are hearing about GFCs leaking more are from folks that need to either replace their bed seal or tighten it down a little more. On GFCs they use the separate straight seals under the cap--one for each bed rail and one on the back of the truck bed. Alternatively, the RSI uses a single bulb seal that runs around each corner continuously. If GFCs leak more I assume it's probably because there is a weak point in the design at the corners of the cap. Easily fixed with a few minor adjustments or adding some butyl tape to the corners.

Both are great options. I'm still trying to decide between the two for the new tundy.

I emailed RSI this morning to ask about any updates on the latches. Nothing new to report, but here's what they sent me:

"The Dual Release Latches are not available as yet. We are however excepting to launch soon. I cannot confirm at this time if the locks will be implemented as a running change at production or if they would need to be purchased as an additional item.

For the past few months, Caps that have been manufactured are dispatched with a set of latch covers added to the fitment kit box, should you Cap not have them, you can reach out and we will send them to you immediately."

I got EXACTLY the same response when I asked about 3 weeks ago. I will say though, in my research I found out the new latches have been in development for well over a year….

So only a couple issues so far. The right win door leaks slightly, and the edges of the sliding windows (plastic) are very sharp. I fixed that with a little sanding. The leak I will need to spend more time on

so far it’s much better than my 2022 model year ARE that I had on my GM
