Aren't OEM rotors 4 piston? Personally, I wouldn't upgrade unless it's to a 6 piston. Rotora's price is insanely competitive considering any other BBK is $5k+

Yes, OE are 4 piston front, single piston rear. It was alluded to above that Rotora kit pricing was cheaper than an equivalent Powerstop kit - hence my confusion and question as I don’t see such a kit. I wasn’t trying to compare the two, just asking about a comparison that was already made. Powerstop does have a few different kits for the tuck, but the Z36 appears to be the most comparable by purpose - built for better braking on a heavy truck without needing a larger wheel to fit a BBK.

The Rotora rear brake kit looks like a great value, being a dual piston setup for $500.

EDIT - I’m not seeing upgraded calipers with the rear Rotora kit; perhaps I am mistaken and they are only a pad and rotor change…

Is there a Powerstop kit that fits 17" wheels?

    I have no idea.

Again - I’m not trying to poo-poo the Rotora kit. I have no dog in the fight. I’m simply asking for clarification on statements made previously in the thread - not arguing one way or the other.

I’ve satisfactorily run OE brakes for 190k+ miles on a truck that weighs north of 7k every day, with OE 18” wheels and OE tire size (in an LT flavor of course), towing at least weekly. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t appreciate a brake upgrade. Unfortunately, most upgraded setups are either BBK kits that require a bigger wheel (not interested), high dust/low life pads and rotors (Ewwww), or simply astronomically priced (here’s looking at you, @reywcms , for introducing brake jealously in to my life - such a thing I didn’t know existed before reading your posts…) and simply an inequitable trade off for my situation and needs.

It was suggested that the Rotora kit is cheaper and a better value than a Powerstop kit - so my question is how, and which one? Admittedly, I haven’t exhausted my inter webs-crawler skills to locate, categorize, and catalogue every available brake option for our trucks, naturally assigning them rank on a leader board based on the seven salacious superiorities of friction-based breakedom…

Understood, I wasn't trying to defend Rotora. I was actually wondering if I missed something in term of what Powerstop offered because I looked at them previously and only saw a kit that said it worked with 18" wheels. I'm running 17" so looking for all my options.

I'm generally ok with the factory breaks but when I tow my trailer I wish I had more stopping power.

Roger that. I didn’t mean to sound stand-off-ish. I was under the impression that fitting a 17” wheel has more to do with the wheel than the brakes where OE and OE replacement brakes like Powerstop’s Z36 kit are designed to fit within the OE packaging envelope. For example, the Rock Warrior wheel is 17” but forged and has a thinner but stronger hoop that will clear factory brakes, whereas most aftermarket wheels with the same offset will not. I’ve seen that some 17” wheels with a more aggressive offset like +27 or 0mm will better clear the caliper, though I’m not sure where that delineation sits.

I'm pretty sure that brake kit is for the 5-lug gen 2 tundra and sequoia. I can't find it on my phone right now, but the power stop kit for the 2022+ Tundra is close to $4k, and doesn't include rear brakes.

The original poster has a 3rd Gen tundra but @texasrho83 posted info for 2nd Gen brakes from Rotora. Perhaps that is where some of my confusion lies (lays? Lay? Stoopid grahmer p’leece…).

Are you asking about aftermarket brakes for the 3rd Gen Tundra or an older year model?

The $2,200 full kit from Rotora is for the 2007-2015 year models of the Tundra, not the 3rd Gen. The cheaper Z36 PowerStop kit is basically just an upgraded 4-piston OEM replacement with no stainless steel brake lines.
