Anyone found a roof rack that will sit on top of the bed rails for the short bed?

They do have stuff for short beds but in my honest opinion I would never recommend that especially if you're going to be loading it down with weight.

Look online and you'll see plenty of instances where the sheet metal underneath the plastic caps crack. They mount the bed rail in a way that does not distribute the load, it's all focused into a very small area

Yeah, I'm not really wanting to utilize the Tundra rail system anyhow. I'm really looking for something that will just rest on the bed rails and have some legs that go down into the tiedown holes for stability. I want to be able to take the thing off pretty easily.

If I don't have a cap I would consider something like this.

That's pretty nice, but not really what I'm looking for unfortunately. I basically just want a shelf to separate the load up a bit for easier access when I'm loaded up for camping or something. I want to put the heavy stuff that can slide on the bottom and the squishy, light stuff on the rack.

If you are just looking for crossbars to go across the bed to mount a cargo basket to, check out the Yakima BedRock System. Simple, easy and even easier to remove when you don't want it on. They are actually coming out with a new version of it in February that will have a super heavy duty crossbar. Not my picture, just used as an example. This guys has two bike racks and the cargo basket on it.

No problem! There are two different sizes of the basket. LoadWarrior (smaller) and the MegaWarrior (larger). Either would fit. Any Yakima dealer could help you out. Or call any Rack Attack and mention coupon code Rack10 and you will get 10% off. (That was a shameless plug... sorry.)

I use a similar setup - Yakima cross bars and a LoadWarrior basket. Works well - there is plenty of cargo room under the rack and it is easy to remove when needed.

looking for bed cover (Tonneau covers) but my question is.. are bed covers compatible with truck bed cross bars for a cargo basket? is this set up possible? any leads pointing me to right direction thanks.
most covers fold up which wont work with bed cross bars, is there a cover that slides in? would prefer if the system is easily removable if possible. thanks

Can you still open your tonneau with that setup?

Yes. I have a retractable cover that rolls in a canister at the front.

I used had their cross bars with my Tacoma. They are nice but very pricey.
