My journey to my Tundra went a little something like this:
Cars - It sure would be nice if I could haul more stuff.
2006 Tacoma Prerunner - I wish I had four-wheel drive, so I could be a little more adventurous.
2013 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Edition (Cement) - Four-wheel drive is great, but I really miss having a truck.
2017 TRD Pro Crewmax Tundra (Cement)! - The best of both worlds.

The first time I saw a Cement FJ Cruiser in person, I knew that I had to have one. I kept trying to deny the voices in my head telling me to just go get one. I eventually gave in and got what seemed to be the last new one in California. As capable and fun as the FJ is, it is not very practical for any everyday family vehicle.
    My favorite FJ picture.

When I saw that Toyota was going to use Cement on the 2017 Tacoma, I thought that was the gentle push that I needed to get back into a truck. Other than the fake hood scoop, the TRD Pro Tacoma looks amazing. The search began it became clear fairly quick that getting a Cement TRD Pro Tacoma was going to be extremely difficult without paying an outrageous markup. I test drove a Tacoma with the off-road package and it was kind of boring and lacking in power, so that helped me make up my mind that the Tacoma wasn’t my next vehicle.
But hey, Toyota also saw fit to use Cement on the 2017 Tundra. I hadn’t previously considered getting a full-size truck, but what the heck why not at least check it out. A dealership about 45 minutes away had one in stock, so I drove down to take a look. When I got there, they had an insane $16,500 markup, so I didn’t even bother driving it. So back to my local dealer to see if they would be getting one in anytime soon. My local salesman is awesome, they weren’t going to be getting one, so he printed out a list of all the upcoming deliveries in Northern California that matched what I was looking for. I sorted by distance and started making phone calls.
    At the dealership.

    Home.

One of the last pictures of my Pro.

    And then this happened.
    IMG_20180507_212147-800x450.jpg

So now I have a long travel Limited.

    Tires - 275/70/18 BFG KO2

    Coachbuilder Shims &Shackles

    Ordered/Not Yet Installed:
    Wheels – SCS Ray10 Black
    I'm still deciding on tires. Either 35" KO2 or 35" Grabber X3

    Audio & Communications

    Not Current:
Audio – Stock crappy stereo. My wife says it sounds like there is a band trapped in the glovebox.
HAM – ICOM IC-2730A. I’ll update with mount and antenna details later.
3D Printed Mount. The screen is a little hard to read, I need to adjust the angle and have it reprinted.
    The location is good.
    Breedlove stake pocket mount.

    Future?:
Audio – Eventually I’ll probably do something, possibly OEM+.
HAM – APRS would be nice to have. Possibly wait until ICOM releases the successor to the IC-5100A.

Baja Designs Squadron-R Sport Fog Pocket Kit, clear driving combo lenses. Amber lenses and filler bezels have been installed. I need to update the picture.

    Rear Lights.

    Ditch Lights.

    CH4x4 custom switches

    Future?:
Nothing planned, but maybe a light bar depending upon the results from the ditch lights.

I retired the Rotopax after getting fed up with the mount not staying in the rail. Instead I'm following the lead of @joonbug and will be going to jerry cans.

Fiskars axe mounted on Quick Fists.

P&P Engineering Type 4 sliders with front plate. It look 14 and a half weeks from order to delivery. At least they look good.

RCI transmission and transfer case skid, black powder coated aluminum. No picture.

RCI fuel tank skid. The design of the 38 gallon skid leaves a lot to be desired. The exposed nuts scare me. I'm working on a ramped washer design that should provide some protection.

*Edited on 1/20/18 Rotopax swapped for jerry cans. Sliders and skids installed.

    Some stuff
This made me chuckle. Exactly why I sold mine. The kids hated being in the back seat and with three, any kind of outing quickly escalated to Chernobyl events.

Are you stuck on Icom? Yaesu's FTM-400 has APRS and it's a great radio. I had the previous gen 350 and loved it. Will be putting the 400 in fairly soon.

My teenage son is 6'2" and watching him get in the back seat of the FJ was comical. More often than not, we would end up taking my wife's car whenever we went anywhere as a family.

I'm not stuck on Icom by any means. Once I decide to upgrade I'll take a look at Yaesu and Kenwood to see what they have.

I actually like the stock TRD pro wheels. They look great on cement. imo, just upgrade the tires when you are about to change to the ridge grapplers.

I like the stock wheels also. The decision to upgrade the wheels will come down to offset, when/if I switch to 295's and possibly get the Coachbuilder steering kit. I could run spacers, but I don't know how I feel about that.

I'm running spidertrax spacers with the pro wheels and 295/65. No issues and have the coach shims and shackles. After talking with David (Coach) I opted to hold off on the steering kit for now. If you like the stock wheels, a quality spacer is much cheaper than new wheels to get a little better stance.

    In other news...
I got a Blue Sea fuse block today, so I might be installing my ditch lights and rear lights this weekend. The only thing stopping me from being excited is how much I hate wiring.
I also got the new Baja Designs filler bezels and amber lenses to swap out on my Squadron Sports. This is an easy one, so there shouldn't be any reason for me not to get these on this weekend.

I love that your first post reads like a 'how we met' love story.

Minus the FJ affair, I was right there with you. Except for me it was the Inferno color. Thought I wanted a Tacoma 'til I sat in one. ("What the?!!, this is as small as a car up in here!") When I finally found my Tundra, it was one of 3 in the USA with the configuration I wanted. And weirdly, I found it hidden in a back lot at a local dealer (taken off the sales track b/c it was pending the bumper fix recall). That sales team couldn't be bothered to figure out I was emotionally attached and sell it to me at a ridiculous mark-up, so I went in to another local dealership with a great reputation for service (all I need from a dealer, after all), told them what I wanted and where it was. They traded the same day and gave it to me at a great discount. I sure love a good love truck story!

Welcome from San Diego!! I look forward to more pics and story from you.

Nice! You've seen my truck, that's 295 70 on the stock wheels with 1.25" spider tracks.

I'm looking forward to seeing more mods... in person and off road.
