I just installed the Flowmaster Outlaw Exhaust in my new Tundra. I got a little excited and gave it a couple of short revs at a cold start. My dad said I shouldn't do that because it's not good for the engine. A couple of short revs shouldn't harm my engine right?

No harm to be done. The oil is pumping as soon as you turn the engine over.
I have the same exhaust & love it.

If you owned a Dodge, however, it would fall apart immediately. Does Dad own a Dodge?

I would follow pops advice. I've always been a fan of this start up procedure: No need to let the truck sit and idle, just go easy on the throttle for the 1st mile or so as the engine warms. I have done this my whole life and had great success. Hopes this helps.

A little of this and a little of that.

I've always liked to get into a truck that the engine has been warmed up when it's cold outside. I agree with @CM-LENNY but since I've got a viper alarm/remote start, I use it daily. Just because I can!

I don’t drive mine until the rpms drop to normal and the engine is a little warm. Just me, I like to be on the safe side

Sure, the oil is pumping from the start but the oil is still cold and in turn thicker which is not a good thing.

Will you blow the engine up doing it? No, not unless you did that every morning for years but it's still not a great idea. Better to let it warm up a little first. Just my $.02

This is one of those questions that is like the cold air intake debate where people say it offers gains and some say no, there are people who as soon as they start their cars the first time of that day they drive it immediately then theres some that wait a few minutes. I wait at least for the rpm's to drop then drive off keeping it below 2k rpm's until it has reached normal operating temperatures, I think of it as when you first start it all the fluids in the truck has to have enough time to reach their destination. It will be an argument, people have drove off and never had problems and people have warmed it up for a few minutes and never had problems, go with whatever has more input on, naw mean?!.

Thanks guys I will definitely take you guys advice and yes specially my dad. Since I only did it once for the first time and not on planning doing it anymore. My engine should be fine right? I mean I didn't cause any permanent damage. Sorry if I'm a little bit paranoid. Ok I admit I have OCD.

Just say “yes sir” to your dad and never do it again in front of him. But I’m sure you’ll be okay doing it when he’s not around. ;)

Personally, I wait until its off high idle then drive off. No heavy accel, just normal light throttle driving.

If you live in the snow belt, i.e. Midwest, and let it idle more than two minutes, wasting gas imho. I drive 25 miles to work, it has to get to a certain temp to go into o/D (6th). That is two miles down a 55mph road from my house it finally goes into 6th. I can't wait when it's -20f (it will take more for sure to go into o/d), sitting in driveway does no good after the fan figures it' self out. Get up and go! 2 cents.

It will actually go into 6th gear regardless of engine temperature; usually at 45 mph at light throttle. However, the torque convertor will not go into lock up mode until your engine is warmed up some and allows the ECM to switch over to closed loop operation. The lock up function will lower your RPM some and sometimes feel like another gear shift.

As far as revving the engine when first started is probably not the best practice because it does take a few seconds for the oil to completely circulate and reach every moving part.

but i love it, i see a drop in my MPG because of over-pressing the damn gas pedal. but who cares right?! i was thinking however of putting in some sound deadening material to see if that helps... plus that'll help with the sound system sounding better as well... thanks for the reply! that was my first post!
