Honestly I was worried about the exact same thing. I was a little concerned but I thought the same on my Tacoma and it worked out great. Here’s some night shots after wiring them sat. I plowed sat night for 6 hrs. Works perfect and even better with the tow mirrors. They could easily be aimed a bit up but for me it’s mint.

Let me know if you want any measurements or anything.

Here are pics of mine. Also have led bulbs in tailights. I tapped into reverse wire at tail light with a inline waterproof connector. I thought floods might better but spots work well. Not real dark in drive with neighborhood Xmas lights on.WP_20171211_20_11_48_Pro.jpg WP_20171211_20_11_59_Pro.jpg

Actually, I would very much appreciate it if you could give me measurements for clearing obstructions in the bumper.

Do you have parking sensors? or all metal bumper caps?

I'll see what I can come up with. Mine were metal, but I converted it to the plastic style, and new bumper reinforcements.

OK, @Baja Designs is the best. I bookmarked the S2 Sport and told my better half that's my Christmas list. She ordered today, but didn't use the forum discount code. Sent an email that requested it be added. Very quickly received a response from Vanessa saying it had been applied. Can't beat customer service like that!

BD rocks. I just couldn't swing it for the rear setups. I have their Fog setup though, and plan for them and my a pillars as well.

Much appreciated. I still have not done the front. This is the grille as it sits now, and I plan to paint the bumper caps to match the rear. But I also have some white vinyl that I may try. I'm not a huge fan of the black caps up front from what I've seen.

So, when I add the Bussman circuit breaker and the new Blue Sea fuse block, would it make sense to use one fuse location to run a wire back to the new Aironboard switch with a 3 amp fuse to power the switch (tapping into a switch for lighting it up from an existing one close to the new one), I am going to be running wire out to the relay from the inside, and that way I could turn the reverse lights on even if the key is off?

I am going to add a light bar at some point, and felt that the new fuse box was a good idea. Would it make sense to put those wires in while I am going through the firewall?

Need help folks. I want to wire extra lights in the rear that can be operated by both the reverse lights and a switch. I know I read somewhere that it can be done but you have to had something to black the current to the backup lights when you turn them on by the switch. Does anybody know what I might have read.

It can be done with either a diode to isolate or an SPDT Bosch style relay. I'd say to use the relay, just because they are a little less fragile (the leads on diodes can be pretty small and need to be soldered in line) and if you have a problem with a relay, they are very easy to change out. Ignore the wire color on the diagram as it is just one I grabbed off the internet, so I didn't have to draw it up, but all the info is there to wire up the lights like you want.

Got my S2 Sports for Christmas.
    20171225_225816.jpg

They came with a harness, this is how it's wired. I hooked them up temporarily this afternoon to make sure I understand before I start. Worked from the switch and from the trigger, which for me will be the reverse lights.

I'll probably take it to my daughter's on Monday to install. My son-in-law has a lift in a heated garage.

Question, the @Baja Designs wiring harness is well made, including the marine grade connectors. It came with a 30A 12V SPST toggle switch. The switch is good, but I'm thinking I'd like something more like the OEM switches. Problem is I can't find any 30A of that style. Any ideas?

Realized I didn't include the specs for the relay.

You don't need a 30A switch, the relay is handling all the current, the switch is only energizing the relay, so any switch will work.

The only thing I see is that you need to add a diode in line on the trigger wire, to keep current from back feeding to the stock reverse light wiring. The way this diagram is, when you turn on the lights on at the switch, the stock reverse lights will come on with the added lights. I can't say for sure if that might or might not cause other problems.

Both are what I was thinking. Thanks much, if the reverse lights are energized then so is the back up camera, so that might or might not cause other problems as you said. But it might give me a switched rear camera which would be cool? I'll set it up again externally but use the reverse lights for the trigger. It was too cold today to try to figure out the wiring and also remove a tail light assembly, I used a hot source and test probe to provide the trigger input. Sounds like like some good indoor, heated, mechanical shit on Monday. I'll rotate the tires too since there's a lift involved.

You aren't required to use a 30A switch since the relay is handling most of the load. Going with an OEM style switch will work. We have customers running 10A-15A OEM style switches without issues.

Got the wiring and one light in yesterday. The switch does turn on the OEM reverse lights and if the ignition is on, the back up camera display on the HU. Doesn't seem to cause a problem though, so for now I'll leave it.

Ran the switch wire through the rubber fire wall penetration, the one that's a bitch to get to.

Didn't get pics of the hole cut or the installed light as it was getting late. When I install the second light I'll get some then. Even in cyclops mode the amount of light is amazing.

I finally got a break in the weather to install the last light. I did it in the driveway, not too bad but the lift sure was nice when tightening the screws.
    Hole cut layed off.

Corners drilled. The cardboard from the box made a much better template than the paper one.

Hole cut. This is the first cut, I had to smooth it out some. I used a grinder with a cutting wheel. It was a bit of a bitch to smooth out because the grinding wheel was larger than the hole cut. My daughter has my Dremel. If I had access to a plasma torch, that would have been the way to go.

Installed. No pics, but I used the light as a drill jig for the mounting screw holes. 11/64 bit, which I thought was weird, but maybe they're metric holes. I don't have any metric drill bits.

Switch installed. I wired it to be illuminated when the lights are on.

    And turned on.

They are great lights so far. I had the first one on before the blizzard of 18 and we also had another snow this week. Held up great. The harness is well made and plenty long. If you don't want your OEM reverse lights or rear camera on with the lights you will need to add a diode. Or you could always install as reverse lights only. The way it's wired now I have an anytime rear camera with lighting. It is a little queasy looking at the road roll away while driving, so I won't be using that feature too often. I don't have any after dark shots, but they are plenty bright.

Did you ever get his done or figure out if it can be done?

    Thank you.
