I'm shopping for a Regular Cab Gen 2 or 2.5 Tundra and finding some decent options with the solid rear window, but really want a slider back there for access to the camper I'm planning to build in the bed. Found one other thread addressing this question but it's not clear if it was resolved, and I didn't get a response there. I know Breezer makes a replacement window that opens fully, but I've read posts by a number of folks who are unhappy with the quality. Would prefer to use OEM parts, or at least a reasonable approximation. I was even told by a large Toyota dealership that they couldn't swap the window and had never heard of it being done before.

Has anyone replaced their solid rear window with a manual slider? If so, can you point me toward a build thread and info on how you sourced parts, or recommend a shop that did the work for you?

I posted it in the 2nd Gen Tundras forum but no one else other than you ever chimed in @Tundra234. It's equally relevant to 2.5 Gen trucks, so figured I might find some other folks here.

No worries. I know it seems excessive, but in addition to posting in these forums, I've also posted in multiple Facebook groups and I haven't yet found a single person who's ever made this switch! I would have figured it would be a fairly common upgrade, so really curious why I can't find anyone who's done it.

I would just go to an automotive replacement glass shop and talk to them.

Yep, will do that once I've bought a truck, but trying to figure out how big a deal it would be to replace a solid rear window before I commit to a truck that has one. I'm sure plenty of shops will say they can do it, but would be good to have an idea of what a fair price is, and a sense of how often replacing the one sealed by the factory results in leaks.

Go talk to several local shops and you will get a feeling for a fair price. Asking guys all over the country will get you regional pricing that you may or may not find in your area.

As far as leaks go, why would the back window leak any more than front windshields that are replaced multiple times a day in the United States?

You're probably right that leaks shouldn't be any more of any issue than they would be with a front windshield replacement.

Still curious why what seems like it would be a common upgrade doesn't yet appear to be common at all...

I think the reason it’s not common is I rarely see a solid rear window, actually can’t remember the last time I saw one.

Interesting. I see them a lot on used regular cabs, but regular cabs are pretty rare themselves.
