Renewing Connected Services

It is and it isn't. Apple music is $11/mo from what I saw. I use Spotify though, so apple or Amazon music is of no value to me.
The price seems in line with what they're offering at least.

 

Right, but what if I only want Remote Connect? I’d gladly pay $5 - $8 a month for the feature, but I’m not going to pay $15 a month for Remote Connect plus some other bundled feature that I neither want nor will use.

 

that was my thought, keep remote connect in the range of aftermarket cell remote start plans.

at least they arent going the GM route and stopping using CarPlay all together, yet....

Unless I misunderstood what you’re saying… I believe you still have to pay the $11 for the Apple Music subscription, plus the $15 to Toyota for the Integrated Streaming package which just let’s use the truck’s 4G connection (rather than your phone) and their interface to stream music. So $26 total to use the integrated streaming feature with Apple. Amazon is probably cheaper, all things considered as part of Prime, but Amazons music library sucks. That value proposition is ridiculous and I don’t understand who would pay for the integrated streaming package?

 

I bet it’s not unlimited high quality data either through the truck

Exactly, the wireless CarPlay is great. Don’t even have to think about it, everything just pops up. I do use the remote connect a lot but I have a year until I have to pay for it. Maybe the pricing options will change by then. Enjoy your new truck!

 

I get that, and I am in the same boat. I ONLY want remote connect. It's dumb they don't offer that separate. But that's what they're doing. I'm just saying that the bundle pricing isn't bad. So for owners like us, we're paying $15 to start our trucks from our phone. Tis but a silly thing.

All of that being said, I have a free trial period but it only lets me enroll in all services or no services. I don't see any options for bundles . Anyone seeing a bundle option on their app and can you post a screenshot?

 

but the problem is that its per month. a lot of 3rd party remote starts its anywhere from $3 month or $6 month, not $15.

Right, but like it or not, they're providing additional services at the $15/mo. If you look at it that way, the remote connect is like $4/mo (w/apple music costing $11/mo if you got that by itself). Not to mention the package also includes Amazon music.

I'm not saying the bundle is the right play, I'm just saying the price makes sense for what's included. I would personally prefer a remote connect only option. Nobody is wrong here, it's all a matter of preference.

 

If that’s the case then it is a better value. However it’s not really clear because on this Toyota Support page it says:

“A subscription to Apple Music or Amazon Music is also required to enable the services.”

Yeah, looking at it again, I think you're right and I misunderstood. "Drive connect" is like turning your infotainment system into an Alexa/Hey Google/Siri and they market it by saying it allows you to access things like Apple music via voice command. That's fuckin stupid. I retract previous comments, $15/mo AND being forced into enabling voice command is a joke.

There's gotta be a way to provide feedback to Toyota that they are swinging and missing with this connected services approach. Remote Connect is the only true value add service, everything else is just an attentive to Android Auto/Apple Carplay (and we all know it won't be as good). The voice enabled service is actually a deal breaker, I don't want that even if it opens up the coolest remote connect features ever.

Anyone have a good contact to provide feedback? If they're already changing bundles, maybe with enough feedback we can get this "remote connect only" thing back on the table.

 

in the grand scheme of things I think they want to do away with CarPlay like GM is doing so you pay them all these BS monthly fees for things the phone and apple just do way better and always will.

just built cars toyota, let this other shit go to apple/andriod

if you need more profit, raise the damn price upfront, don't nickel and dime us with the monthly bullshit

 

Frankly, the only feedback they probably care about is $$$. If no-one subscribes they’re more likely to change the pricing model

well if they do this like most, they farmed it out to a 3rd party contractor to manage it. i am guessing the 3rd party is paying for the cell service and maintenace of the database and what not. in return they take most if not all of the profit made per monthly sub and pay toyota so much per sub.

if they dont make a profit by over charging and no one renews then they will

1. lower the cost per sub to get people to sub
2. get dropped by toyota and toyota finds a new service provider

I see about the access to the Cell Towers, I think it should be about $ 8.00 a month, not free but a reasonable price.
I see this as always Having a monthly payment, which I don't like.
It is also like Drug Dealers, they give you something for free (Trail Period), and once you start liking it then it is going to cost you.

 

Just a warning. Once the trials expire, you get to look at a Toyota ad to renew the service for several seconds before it will connect to your phone for apple carplay/android auto. Drove me crazy enough to pay the $15/mo even though I rarely use the Toyota services. Now it connects to my phone quickly again.

 

I use remote start from my phone daily (the fob won't reach my truck) so I renewed service today. Now when I go to get the QR code in the truck it just sits and spins, no code shows up from my phone for me to scan. I'm following the instructions (open the app tab in settings, open the app on my phone, etc.). Anyone have this happen and find a way to get it to work? I can't find an f'ing customer service number...

 

I had same issue. Pressed the SOS button on overhead console and spoke to person. They fixed it for me.

Toyota responded - quickly too I'd say. They think the bundles are a value thing, which I kinda get even though I disagree. At least they're acknowledging the feedback. Perhaps if more chime in, they'll consider alternatives.

Yep, even if you get the music lover package, youll still see the navigation ad. They really want you to get the stupid navigation package. I went with the music lover but am honestly considering changing to the nav package just to get rid of the ad
