I’m sure that I will never buy a GM EV, even if it’s the last auto manufacturer making cars/trucks.. This is crazy and considering that these manufacturers don’t develop or provide decent entertainment/NAV systems as a general rule, why would you want to get one of these vehicles without car play or android auto is unbelievable.

Yep, if the customers would just put their foot down and not subscribe, sell off their Toyota’s for something else, then maybe those money grubbing CEO’s would provide as part of total purchase. With my older 2017 Honda Pilot, I can sell it with built in Navigation that I paid for at time of purchase. Yes, the maps are out of date without buying annual update CD, but 99% of the roads have not changed either. 2022 Tundra is a dummy screen now without subscription. Gonna have to sell it off to another buyer and hope they are ok with it having this big ass 14 inch screen that doesn’t have navigation. I know, I can use my phone’s car play with free apple maps, google maps, or waze. But what about when I don’t have phone with me, cell service, etc. My Honda navigation works off of satellites and doesn’t matter that I have a phone or not. Make the value of my vehicle lower without built in navigation. I am sure that I paid for it at the time I bought the Toyota, they wouldn’t have given me a years subscription without paying. That “Hey Toyota” is worthless without subscription. Apple and Google don’t charge for that once you buy their phones. People just need to not buy into these strong arm tactics. I won’t get these subscriptions just on principle alone.

You don't enjoy having a billboard shoved in your face when you start up your $50,000 truck?

It’s crazy that we’re discussing a huge step backwards and going back to phone mounts lol.

my 10 yr old 7in garmin does a better job at nav than any oem. i still use it when going on long distance trips outside the state. since i already have the route i want to follow pre loaded on it with motel stops along the way.

plus i can use/interact/modify it while driving.

most oem's wont let you do a lot while in motion.

The subscription service is required to use your key fob to remote start the Tundra, which should not require cell towers, updates, and plan management

I have searched and searched for threads talking about Toyota Connected Services where some posters stated they got Connected Services for three years from the purchase date of their new truck. Am I dreaming this up or does anybody else remember posts about three years free? Ours just ran out and I am deciding what to do. If it is possible to get three years, I am calling Toyota. Thanks.

My free trial to remote connect finally expired today. Remote start still works with the key FOB though. FOB range sucks but at least the remote start still works. Not going to renew it for now as I looking to get aftermarket with takeover.

My fob still works for remote start. I think the problem is that the fob sucks so bad (range, lack of positive response, have to hit the button in precise sequence) that a lot of people just thinks it doesn’t work when it actually still does.

My Sirius contract has expired, and I have no plans on renewing it - to delete the stations I'd favorited during the complimentary subscription - just go into favorites list, edit and remove them by clicking on the - (minus) button on the right. Done! (I had 4 stations I'd listened to - now all gone )

I am willing to bet that if you let the subscription expire, you are still allowing Toyota to collect data and sell to third parties unless you expressly opt out. I unsubscribed and opted out of all "services" and at that point my remote start with the fob also quit working. It's not an issue of range as a poster above mentioned.

I will ask the dealership when I go in for my next service.

My Tundra is still under trial period, but on our Lexus RX350, the remote start with the fob stops working shortly after the 1yr subscription ended.

i am talking about the app remote start. the fob is useless if the truck is any distance from the fob.

unfortunately the employee parking is about 500 feet from the store back entrance plus the metal structure doesnt help either. even cell signal is spotty at times inside the store. with our winter temps and snow at times, we have to use the app to remote start, the fob never works. even on the 2018 we had to use the app as the distance is too great along with the interference.

if the rumors are true and they allow hvac controls in a release this fall, we may break down and pay the $15 fee, if not i will be installing a drone mobile remote start. she is not relly fond of the sluggish response from the toyota app. she complains that she has to sometimes double start the truck before the app will confirm the truck started.

No, no I don't enjoy the subscription billboard shoved in my face. If Toyota is going to continue down this path, this may be my last Toyota.

It probably is a just a hit or miss in some cases.

Do you have JBL audio? That package enables the key fob remote start function for 10 years. Not sure why they decided to make those two related

It could be hit or miss OR it could be that 22+ Tundra’s might be a bit different in some ways as I honestly think we are all in a big early adopter experiment anyway.

My keyfob still works though my subscription has expired also and I have a base package SR5 audio (I didn’t waive it…it expired after 3 extensions by Toyota).

Also…this article was written at the end of 2021 and way too many “not so thought out changes” are happened which leads me to further believe that Toyota still seem to be experimenting with is in some ways given the varied feedback/experiences we have all shared here.

I will wait and see how long it takes to stop working (hopefully it doesn’t)

Yep, Toyota not listening to their customers. Just got email inviting me to subscribe to the connected services on my +$60K Tundra. What a joke to have to pay a minimum of $15/month for their “Go Anywhere” connected services App with remote start and navigation. Even more ridiculous with their $25/Month fee if you add “Integrated Streaming” for music just so you can piggyback Apple or Amazon music without using your phone’s data plan. I rarely used the remote start via app and only used navigation when cell signal was bad. We really paid for these features when we bought the truck. No price breaks off MSRP and Toyota dealers taking it to their customers with market adjustments should be enough reason for Toyota to provide free service for at least 5 yrs.

Has anyone gotten a message on their 14” screen asking to update the system? I’m not planning to do a software upgrade, probably removes features and makes apple car play or android auto not work properly to get you to pay for their subscription services.

What a bummer this thread is. I just got my tundra and was all ready to get the remote connect service (it's still advertised as a standalone in some places) because remote start from my phone would be handy... But the bundled thing? Screw that! I want nothing to do with their emergency service thing, nor their navigation. I GUARANTEE Android auto using Google maps is hands down better. Toyota, you make vehicles, not operating systems. Stop this crap.

I understand the need for a charge to some extent, it costs to have the cell connectivity for things like remote start with the app, but the bundles are just excessive. Hopefully it changes, as Toyota is / has been good with maintaining a positive view of their brand.

I have a 2021 Tundra (bought new in 04/22) and I was able to do the $80/yr Remote Connect. Mine expired on 4/16 and I did the 1 yr subscription.

but you dont have as much remote features to justify charging more compared to the new 3rd gen tundra. the new HU have more integrated remote features than the old gens.

Just got an email concerning connected service offerings, it looks like there are three tiers but the least you'll pay is $15 a month.
