I really have lost interest in this whole thing due to the price increase as I stated previously. I will definitely subscribe if Toyota decides to offer remote connect separately again at the $9 per month.

I have encountered the same issue when trying to renew remote connect and bundling it with other services. I have not used, and do not intend, to use the other services. I view this as an ill informed action to Toyota's part. They developed services with little to no proper market research and are now attempting to force the users to pay for their ineptitude.

I love my Tundra and have owned may other Toyota vehicles. At the present time, I do not intend to ever purchase another Toyota, based on their actions. I do not believe that I will ever recommend a Toyota to anyone. Currently, is an done with Toyota!!!

That’s just the car market for the most part man, it blows but not buying a Toyota and going to another brand it’s just the same shit or worse , gm is forcing on star that is even more

Hopefully necessity will be the mother of innovation for 3rd parties here. One feature I just realized was really cool that I will miss is the open windows and unlocked doors notification, doubting any current 3rd parties have this option?

Agreed. But is it worth 15/mo? no! I was willing to splurge and do the 8/mo or 80/yr but this is just dumb on toyota's part

So i let my subscription expire, and noticed the subscription also takes away the Toyota Nav access. I can't believe they are all about making money. No pride in product anymore. :(

Noticed that too. *shrug* My carplay connects a second into powering on the truck anyway. Didn't use the toyota nav a single time in a year.

I imagine there may be lawsuits in the future due to all of these microtransactions to use a feature your vehicle came with when you purchased it. There is legislation popping up at the state and federal levels addressing microtransactions. New Jersey has legislation moving through the ether that will prohibit a vehicle manufacturer from charging subscriptions or fees for features that don't require "ongoing expense to the dealer, manufacturer, or any third-party service provider." So like using your key fob to remote start the vehicle isn't an ongoing expense for them. But if I am not mistaken, Toyota attempted to remove this feature if you didn't have a paid subscription. I think they backtracked on this, but I'm not sure as my subscription is still good for another week. Mercedes is requiring a fee to "unlock enhanced acceleration" in a couple of models at $1200 a year. BMW attempted to require paid subscription in the US for heated seats. They also backtracked and said it was only for people "who didn't pay for the feature during vehicle purchase." But in some countries, BMW still gets away with the heated seat subscription. They're going to continue to push the envelope until the outcry is too great and people in congress start to take note or become affected by it. Let's be honest, politicians only care if it benifits them.

Zero brand electric motorcycles does the same thing, all the features are there but if you want to access them you pay a subscription.

It's not just Toyota and it's not just cars. Nobody likes this model (except for the manufacturers) but it's here to stay. KTM does the same with its motorcycles. Cruise control, rider aids, and fuel maps are free during the trial period. Then they stop working unless you pay. I had to pay my dealer extra to enable the buttons for heated grips and fog lights on my new Ducati. Tesla has been big with this too, forcing owners to pay thousands for over the air updates that unlock features or additional power.

This is a bit ridiculous to read about. Toyota, I think is making a huge mistake. I don't use many (any?) of these services, but I could see where I might, maybe , at some point down the road somewhere. I keep my music on my android, use android auto, wife uses apple car app, and streams her music from her itunes app there. If either of us run out of music there, or want a change - we have spotify/pandora we go to. Other car mfgrs are doing this too. I think it's a huge gimmick/mistake on their part - they're already charging a lot for a vehicle, then you try to nickel/dime buyer on things like this... is wrong.

Count down until all OEMs remove Apple and Android from their vehicles. Replace with a proprietary pay wall for nav, music, data, etc. GM already have a Google platform developed with plans to phase out Apple and Android in new vehicle releases. They will not be alone.

It would appear that Toyota is second guessing and/or trying to figure out what they are doing with their subscription based services based on a survey I participated in a couple of days ago. There must be a lot of Toyota owners not renewing or subscribing to these services.

I saw on the news this weekend, that GM is planning on phasing out(not allowing them) Apple CarPlay and Android auto in the next 8 years out of all of their cars. They are working with Google to implement some sort of google based app for driving in them. So yeah, looks like all of the mfgrs are moving in that direction. If that's the case, with Toyota/Audi(the 2 brands I drive) I'll have to get a tablet at that point. Unless google downgrades their app or somehow disables it which I really don't see happening, but who knows.

I fucking hate the "as a service" model. It's just a way to get you to pay for something over and over. I get it for an app on your phone, but when you drop 70+k on a truck and they try to nickel and dime you for basic features and bundle it with a bunch of worthless features it's just bad business that undermines the loyalty people feel towards a brand.

you do realize its to offset the cost of accessing LTE towers and transferring data and for someone to manage the plans. its no different than you paying monthly for cell service or an online service like netflix, etc. and yes i know it doesnt cost $15 a month for that but then again its what they are charging. dont like it dont pay for it. its no different than a mvno accessing at&t towers or vz towers like mint mobile who charge $15 month.

dont see people screaming about having to pay a monthly fee to access cellphone towers.

if they do that, bye bye stock unit, hello aftermarket

I highly doubt this will happen, its CarPlay and AA are what people want and are light years ahead of the built in nav crap

Same. Not sure if I want to keep the music package or switch over to the navigation one just to get rid of that stupid screen at startup.

you will still get the warning notice regardless. its a mandated pop up by lawyers.

or are we talking about a different screen pop up?

the warning screen will always pop up. it been on my 14 4runner, so i dont think it will go away and i dont have any connected services.

I never got this screen until it expired, don't think it's mandated by anyone other than maybe an accountant wanting more of my money

i thought you were talking about the warning pop up, not the sub pop up, my bad.

doesnt that not pop up if you have AA/CP as the default?
