Your key fob remote start works without subscription? Because mine quit working when I unsubscribed from their connected services.

well we never used our fob since the distance from the truck was too far for when we wanted to use it. her work building is like a faraday cage and when we go out to eat it never worked from more than few hundred feet and since we always parked in the boonies. so we always used the app.

Wow. My remote connect expired and they will not let you extend it or purchase it. There is also no annual fee only monthly. That’s pricey for this option on a truck I spent money for. Toyota is a joke for this. I actually enjoyed the remote connect and used it all the time.

I just called to confirm and the only way to use the app is purchasing this as a package and pay at least $15/month. The lady told me they got rid of the Remote Connect only option for 8 or 80/ year.

That’s a bit annoying. The range on Toyota fob sucks, one of the thing I love about the truck is the remote starting it from anywhere. I use it so much.

I suppose this will devolve into a "Vote with your dollars" type of situation. Hopefully, enough people don't bend the knee and pay the $15 a month.

I get the sense that very few people were paying for the additional services (like the overpriced GPS navigation). The only hope Toyota had was to bundle those useless services with the one service people actually used and were willing to pay for. SMH.

This is a real *ick move on Toyota's part.

    This is what I’m
Hoping for. We’ll see though. As of now, I’ll walk outside to remote start my truck with the fob

Assuming your fob works with expired service? I guess I'll find out in a few days when my Remote Connect expires.

Well, it worked for me this morning. It expired yesterday. I’ll keep doing it to make sure. I read somewhere though that the Fob remote access expires after 3years with no subscription.

whelp guess im looking into drone mobile for remote start this summer, as my remote connect expires in feb in the coldest month of the year for ND

the module is about $250 and install is about $150 and yearly sub if you buy in 5yr chunks is about $3 month for basic (no gps) or $6 month with gps

Does drone mobile offer takeover? and can I DIY it? I don't see option to buy it, have to go through a dealer.

I was thinking of using Accessorides. Accessorides local to me and DIY friendly. Had them on my 2019 4Runner and it was simple. Comes with harness that's makes it Plug and Play. So save on labor cost. Only thing was it didn't had takeover for 4runner.
For 2022 tundra, looks like they offers takeover, so the engine doesn't shut off when you open the door. Price is $40 a year for smart phone control. First year is free.

Ohhhh. This is nice. Might have to pull the trigger on this.

I can see the 2-part install being a worry for some, but that doesn't seem like a big deal. I'll be interested to see what the install looks like when they post the install video.

Yeah. I just noticed that part now that you mention it. It's probably for the takeover part.

I didn't had to do 2 part for my 4runner. It was plug and play, but vehicle shut off when opening the door.

Price is higher for module but for takeover part, it might be worth. :monocle:

I wonder what makes the app control option cost extra $150? The price jumps form $300 to $450. I guessing they only install the LTE module on the units that have the app control spec'd by the customer.

Well it was cool to have for a year, but they cut me off lol. App doesn’t offer much without connected services, so I deleted that. I came close, but just can’t justify $15 per month for extra garbage I will never use so I can start my truck from anywhere.

I just went out and checked. It still works!! I will just need the truck in eyesight to verify it started. No biggie. I didn’t have any of this on my ‘18 limited and survived just fine.

I might have to swing by the dealership and get this sorted. Mine quite working via fob as soon as I unsubscribed from connected services

I wonder if it's bc you unsubscribed vs it running out and not resubscribing?

It doesn't make much sense, but idk how else to explain someone else's working when yours does not

I'm really disappointed in Toyota for going the profiteering route with it's loyal customers and I hate their attempt to corral us into using services we don't want or need by grouping valuable services with junk. They should have followed their original model of allowing their customers to choose services that have value to them and pay for that service. I guess their next move is to sell us a Tundra and a Corrolla at the discounted price of $90,000 when all we really need is the Tundra. This move has forced me to explore "Android Auto" and I absolutely love using Waze and Google Maps over the temperamental and often unavailable Drive Connect. My 2022 Platinum Tundra is the only vehicle that I decided not to add an aftermarket security system with remote start to but that just changed. I didn't spend $60,000 to then be nickeled and dimed out of more money by Toyota. Just saying!

Verified mine works after remote connect expired. Glad my driveway is close enough to still start the truck from inside with the fob.

I just spoke with Toyota via 1-800-331-4331, and was informed that they switched companies to provide this service, and that the ONLY option to get Remote Connect is to buy one of the bundled services starting at $15/month, which is absurd being that Carplay and Android Auto already provide all of the dumb features they are trying to force on us. "Music Lovers" is also pointless for someone that uses Spotify, and not Apple or Amazon. She said this change just happened 2 weeks ago.

Does anyone know of any good 3rd parties that work on 3rd gens? I've seen Accessorides and Drone Mobile (had that on my tacoma, wasn't overly impressed). Bonus points if it has climate control options :)

only options i know of that consistently work/no down time are drone and mycarcontrols app. used both but i like mycarcontrols app since they dont upcharge for gps location tracking (you can only do 1-2 min interval refreshes)

but if you buy drone mobile 5yr plan within the 30 day trail, the cost comes out to about the same as the yearly mycarcontrols app cost. mycar use to charge yearly at $50 or $60 a year with no option to go longer.

the drone 5yr plan with gps comes out to $6 month

the drone 5yr plan w/o gps was like $3 month

the problem is the ROI of drone vs toyota.

the drone now for me after i checked was $550 installed + $360 for 5yr gps plan = $910

toyota at $15 month would take 60 months to break even with the drone install + service.

so then it becomes an issue of if you intend to keep your toyota longer than 60 months or trade in before that.

we intend to trade our 2023 tundra in once the blueprint color disappears and a better shade of blue comes out, then that will be our last tundra.

The way the “music lover” package is worded makes it sound like you have to get that to stream anything. What music streaming services is it regarding? I’ve only used Apple CarPlay and Sirius Radio.

It says right there in the text: Apple Music and Amazon Music. These are sources you can select just like Radio or SiriusXM, but they require the AT&T connectivity (Subscription).

I didn’t think of the connectivity subscription being required which is why it confused me since those things can come from my iPhone. So I can either pick music services I don’t use or pick a navigation system I don’t use if I want to continue using the start from app function.. awesome.
