My truck is black and I’m thinking of replacing the stock 3rd brake light housing with a smoke-tinted housing with LED lighting.

Today, I took off the stock lens to see how easy it would be to swap it out. It looks like the headliner is either going to have to be removed or at the very least pulled down to gain access the two mounting studs.

    Anybody actually done this?
Does the headliner look “right” afterwards?

Yes headliner pulls down, also rip door seal, most back panels to get to it all because 2 screw you gotta remove. I have one and still didn’t put in in. Seems like a days work. Thinking on getting @Headlight Revolution cargo leds and lightly smoke the cover with vht or plastic dip or something in that nature.

Yeah, that sounds like a lot of work for a little gain.

I do have some leftover VHT Nightshades spray tint left over. I’ll probably go that route too.

I bought the light and attempted to do this yesterday... it seems easy once you can actually get ahold of the nuts on the two studs holding the housing of the third brake light. I'm hoping to get this done in the next couple weeks and will try to take pics.
This vid goes over it alright: https://youtu.be/SYtliycn_zg

I’m going to be swapping out the incandescent brake and cargo light bulbs with VLEDS. So I have to remove the housing from inside the truck? On my truck, there are 4 are screws on the outside face of the third brake light. I’m hoping that I just remove those, the lens comes off and then I can replace the bulbs. Am I wrong? The truck in the video above doesn’t appear to have any screws on the outside.

You can change the bulbs without taking out the housing.

Be careful when you remove the cover. If you drop it, it will fall in between the bed and cab and is a huge pita to get out. I know from experience!

I found a company that just makes smokes lenses for the tundra and did LED bulbs. Been on for over a year and no issues.
