So, this has happened the last 2 days in 2 different locations in the same places it has worked fine before. 4 bars LTE. The app throws an error that says make sure the vehicle is in a location with a wireless signal. Well, duh. It is and was. And no, my trial has not yet run out. Anyone else? I finally need it and it doesn't f'n work.

Have you tried remote start from your FOB? Mine has been reliable, and works from a reasonable distance away.

Is your phone on the same wireless network as the truck? I though I read somewhere that the truck uses AT&T (not 100% sure on that). Point being that just because your phone has 4 bars doesn't necessarily mean the truck does.

Just an FYI from a telecom worker, the bars on the phone are not measuring the actual signal strength. It's a different freq. and has to be calibrated for accuracy. It might say 4 bars, but if the calibration is off it might be less.

Is the truck locked? It fails on me unless I locked the truck previously.

I stand somewhat corrected. The error message is different today. It says to check to make sure the doors are locked (they are), the hood and tailgate are shut (they are) and the fob is not inside the truck (it isn't). And it remote starts fine from the fob, which I am sure needs to check and clear those same conditions.

I was just our dealing with this... pretty easy as this stuff goes but still a PITA.

Depends on your definition of reasonable. Mine works maybe 50 feet away direct line of sight with zero walls or obstacles. It is pathetic.

LOL... I just tried it from the app again, maybe the 4th time today, and it started.

Do these trucks have a SIM card and cellular or something like that to receive the signal or is this just a bluetooth connection?

I can see range being an issue but the cellular network should be able to reach the truck so long as it is in the coverage area.

4G cellular, hence the subscription charge.

My 2105 BMW is has a 3G connection a few months ago BMW dropped the support so no more live traffic or other features. Over the years that we have had this car, the app has been terrible but over the last year and the updates, it had gotten much better, just before they stopped supporting it :(

The app still works and I can do the basic things still but the added features have been dropped from the 3G support.

if the truck is unlocked or the hood is popped (trickle charging), it will NOT remote start.

found this out this weekend :)

and btw if you forget to latch the hood properly and driving down the road if the hood pops to the safety latch, the MID screen throws up a big error and beeps very loudly.

scared the bejeesus out of me this weekend after putting a charging on it :)

On the lock button... 2 clicks about 1 second apart, then a third time holding it down for 5 seconds until you see the parking lights flash twice. It's finicky and you need to be close.

just reminder, the remote start via the fob follows the same rules as the app, you can only do 2 remote starts, then you have to open a door and relock the truck to remote start it again.

It is pretty odd that the app doesn't specifically WHICH condition isn't met and just gives you a laundry list. It has to have that data, so why on earth not just say it?

I recently discovered the remote start won’t work if you’re using a VPN

By the same logic, it depends on your definition of pathetic. I have no desire to remote start my truck, if I can't see it actually start, so the FOB works fine for me. Actually, I could live without remote start all together. It's a luxury feature that I've lived without for 62 years. I think I will use it more often to cool my truck down, when we travel to tropical climates, then in the winter to warm the truck up.

I am used to loooong range aftermarket with 2-way comms. I used to be able to remote start my Tacoma that was 400 yards away and not line of site from my 3rd floor office. I'd start it as I started to walk out at the end of the day. Now I can't even start my Tundra from my kitchen table that is about 40 feet from the truck. LOL. Unless I use the app.... and IF the app works.

I use the app to check if the truck is locked, I have used the remote start 2 times in 16 months. Not a big feature but I do like knowing that the truck is locked.

This weekend here in Colorado and temp hovering right around 0 F or negative I couldn't get the app to fire the truck up. Kept getting the error of no internet available or something like that, so had to walk up to the front window and try the FOB like 5 or 6 times before I could get three clicks in a row to register with the truck, so it could be remote started (it was negative something outside so good day to remote start). One of my very very very few complaints on the truck is how poor the remote start on this Tundra is compared to my previous vehicles, but it is what it is and I'll learn to live with it. Its a feature on the truck so would be nice if it worked well...I can't ever imagine paying to use that Mytoyota app, its about the biggest POS of an APP i've ever used that rarely works and if I paid for it I would contest that charge every month for Toyota not being able to deliver the goods. One thing in March I have to look forward to is the trial expiring and I'll never have to think about the app again. I look at it as they gave me a trial to show me I should never ever think about paying for it. Thanks for the trial Toyota! edit...."I do use the point it at your chin trick that used to start my silverado from the 12th floor of my office building and now with the tundra 10 feet away looking through a window I have a hard time even with the use your old noggin as an antenna trick"

I have used that trick for 25 years and it basically doubles the remotes' ranges. Unfortunately for the Tundra 2 x ~zero is still ~zero. It is by far the shortest range remote fob I have ever used.

Almost every time I try to use the app for anything... it fails. I've pretty much given up on the app. Somehow it is able to endlessly tell me it is unlocked when I'm sitting in the truck, but if I try to actually use lock, unlock or start, it tells me the command failed. I don't remember the exact message, but it is pretty techie. One message is that there is a JWT error. Really? I happen to know what a JWT is (Java Web Token that is used for app authentication), but I should never see a message about one. The app was clearly rushed out and not tested. Remote start with the FOB works fine.

Weird. This happened to me for the first time ever today. I start my 21 TRD Pro all the time from the app. we got about 7 inches of snow that’s sitting on my truck and I tried starting it today and it wouldn’t. Got the same thing as you. I went outside, open the door in the snow, which was a PITA doing it again, and it still failed. Went back inside, grabbed my keys and tried it from the key fob and it started right up. Weird never had this problem before

Yup, weird. And it still begs the question why the app doesn't tell you exactly which of those issues failed to be met. It has to know, since they each have separate switches that report to the computer. Or maybe it also just throws that message when it has no idea why the remote start failed.

the app is just displaying a generic error like the CEL. i am guessing the app probably doesnt have access to the actual error code like a scan tool (Pxxxx) to determine what the actual fault was to cross reference.

    just my wild guess

Exactly, but why not? The thing is that it is clear in my case all those conditions had been satisfied, so this generic fault message is a joke and I have no idea why it failed... repeatedly.

This morning for me I can't even sign in to the app. Just get stuck on a screen that says "Sign in is taking longer than usual. Please Wait". As I said before sure was nice of Toyota to give me a trail of their app to show me I would never want pay to use their app.

I have had that message several times myself. Not sure if it is a Toyota cloud problem or the fact that I just have a 4G phone. Maybe 5G would eliminate some delay errors, but IDK.
