Bitch to keep clean. Same as my black Trans Am and Fatboy. But worth the extra washing to have the color I want. Funny story to go with this. I took the kids to one of the local Amish to get pumpkins as we usually do every year but this was first time there in the Tundra. The Amish gentleman says wow that’s a very nice rig you got there. I said thank you, I really like it a lot. He says yeah I always try to get black horses but I got a good deal on a couple brown ones and now I gotta hear about it anytime we take them to town. Nobody wants to take the brown ones. Lol

I live in New England. I’ll never own another black daily driver. Best color I ever had was silver on my rav4. Just wipe the brake dust off the wheels once a week and the thing would look clean for a month.

My wife drives a silver Flex, same deal. Thing looks like it needs a bath a few days a year, even less if I clean the rear window once in a while.

2014 bought used in Feb 2017 25k. Had brush scratches and swirl marks all over. Did the DA polisher treatment first couple months and it turned out great. 2 years later time to do it again. Once clean, an every other day wipe down with a quick detailer does the trick. Takes 10 min.

    This!!!!

Most people do not realize they are causing the fine scratches. Larry at AMMO has a lot of video's on this. But most will never go through what he does (https://www.ammonyc.com/detailing/best-carwash-technique-15-steps-tools/)
But if you follow what Pudge took the time to type, you will do much better.
    • Two bucket method or at the least, Grit guards
    • multiple mits to wash
    • using the proper towel or blow drying
    • I also like the Griots pfm drying towels
BTW: I have my 69 Corvette, my daily driver 2005 Corolla XRS and my Tundra. All are black.

My Truck. I usually use Zaino. I tried something new. I used AMMO as my godson is a detailer and recommended it. I put on AMMO Reflex and then AMMO Skin.

I have had three black Tundas now (2006, 2013, 2018) and would not buy another color. The extra care, baths and cleaning is worth it. :)

The story of how I came to get my black Tundra is a long one. When I got divorced I got the minivan. The day the papers were signed drove it down to trade it in on a Blue all-chromed up top of the line F-150. When I met my new wife at the time she made fun of me for driving a “Daddy Truck”. So I vowed with the new Tundra to go all black - and I love the way it looks.

It’s a love/hate relationship - hate keeping it cleaned, but love it when it’s cleaned and shined up. People give it looks all the time.

I traded a black mustang for my cement tundra last year. That mustang shined so deep you could have just fallen into the paint and been swallowed whole. IMO nothing looks better than black. You cant avoid the scratches though, no matter what color the vehicle is or what technique you use. If you're touching the paint you're scratching it. How MUCH you scratch it is all you can control.

I highly recommend a product like Klasse Sealer Glaze. It'll give you a nice shell for some protection and it works. I had a smudge of it on my bumper and it didn't wash off for almost 2 years.

I do have regrets about buying my black Tundra. I don't like to admit it and I don't talk about it often, but it was a big mistake buying my black SR5. What I should have done was buy a black limited Tundra, so that I would have no chrome to worry about and have way more black.
    :D

Honestly, if you're anal enough to care about every little time you splash a puddle, or every little scratch in your paint, go buy white or brown or whatever. This should be thought out before you buy any vehicle. Black isn't for the faint of heart but it undeniably looks amazing when clean.

My feeling has always been that a truck can be, and should be, a little dirty and a little scarred. They're trucks, not sport cars. They are made to do work and earn the scars. When I go to dig a hole in my yard I dont put on my office Oxfords, I grab my Wolverine work boots and I don't mind the scuffs.

Love having a black Tundra, scratches, swirl marks and all.

Weather was nice today so I got it all cleaned up...it's gonna look awesome for about 10 minutes. ;)

You could always paint correct it and then cover it with paint protection film. Then when you wash it, you wouldn’t add scratches or anything.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
I had a 99 pre runner DC in black, washed and waxed weekly,
Washed/ rinsed with a DI tank with 3 cubic ft of resin, Spot free rinse. I never hand dried it ever. I did scrub it with new towels I’d bought from Costco.
I’m considering the same technique for my blue colored truck.

Turtle wax makes a Black vehicle wax that hides those little scratches pretty damn good. Me i just hit the muddy back roads often to keep it dirty.. i live in Upstate NY the real NY more dirt roads than paved

I’ve had multiple black cars that were garage kept and non-daily drivers. Been detailing cars since I was young. I finally got a black daily driver and it was a nightmare. My OCD was getting the best of me, especially when I had to drive it on construction sites. My neighbors used to laugh at me when I washed my cars. they said I had so much wax on it that the water wouldn’t even stay on it when I sprayed it.

My 2nd truck was Black. I remember when I was waxing it by the time I got to the back of the truck the front was already showing pollen, dust and whatever. After that truck I vowed to NEVER own another black Vehicle again. My only advice is keep it in a garage because all the cleaning supplies in the world will never help. All that being said a black vehicle when clean is always a looks Great! Too much work for me, I've got many better things to do than cleaning and waxing a truck! Just Sayin'

Does anyone use a car cover to help keep it clean? It would be HUGE to cover a Tundra. I have one for the Corolla. It does keep pollen and dust off of it.

Cover is a trade off. It will introduce way more scratches than washing properly.

My black 14 Limited had a ton of chrome. Only chrome bumpers left. No regrets though. Not OCD much at all. It's a truck. Looks bad ass when spiffed up and with @War Machine 's guidance!
