Is there a preferred brand? Amazon has a million choices. Just looking for something I can keep in my truck that won't break the bank. Also need a d ring receiver hitch.

This is a tree strap. Shouldn’t be used to pull another truck. And probably way too short.

Just be sure you decide whether you want a snatch strap or a tow strap. They are very different.

It's actually the 30' tow strap I guess they are out of stock on that one so it put up the tree saver instead.

Yeah that's really what I'm asking. I didn't realize there was this much to know. A snatch strap is designed to stretch and a tow is not. Is that right?

The reason I'm asking is because I've had one of these in my Truck for a few years and learned it's really not safe for pulling out stuck vehicles. So I guess it should only be used for towing?

I keep hearing about these forum discounts. Is there a secret handshake one must learn?

Call WheelersOffRoad and ask to talk to Dan.. YotaDan. Tell him what you need. I also got their tree saver strap with freebie d-shackle. The shipping box always has a Wheelers sticker and candy. These straps are custom made for Wheelers. They aren't marked up too much at all. More strength at less cost. Win...win..
FYI>>>>Continuous use strength is 13000. Pretty good.

I'm sure they are OK but made in China for Rhino "USA". They are made of decent material. Break strength is important but even more important is the continuous use rating. Not sure what Rhino USA continuous use rating is. It's usually 1/3 or more of break strength.

What's good about snatch straps is they are also good for towing. I've seen hooks fail on the cheaper tow straps. I avoid them completely.

A snatch strap stretches and uses the kinetic force to help pull out a stuck vehicle. A tow strap doesn’t stretch. If you’re pulling out a really stuck vehicle and don’t have much traction, a snatch strap is almost required. It’ll allow your truck to get a running start and use all that energy to pull out the stuck vehicle. If you try that with a tow strap, it’s going to jolt you like you ran into a brick wall and possibly pull off a bumper or whatever you are attached to. You can tow with a snatch strap in an emergency, but you’ll ruin your snatch strap. They’re not designed to continually stretch. Ask me how I know.

I would actually get a nice snatch strap rated 2-3 times your truck weight. Stronger is not better in this case. It won’t stretch enough if the rating is too high. And also carry a cheaper tow strap. Rated about 30k lbs.

Nice info. Good point about the proper amount of stretch.

Wish I had seen this thread before I had purchased my recovery strap and my towing strap...I would have purchased it all from “Wheeler’s Off-Road Inc.” Really like to purchase USA made when possible and support smaller shops. With that said I got an “ARB” recovery (snatch) strap and a “Smitty Built” tow strap. Both will stay in the truck together, along with my tow strap hitch.

I probably won't need it, hopefully not for me, but I'll carry this and a few other things (tow hitch strap, soft shackles) during the winter in case I run across someone needing help in the snow. It was $30cad from Costco and if it breaks the first time, it gets returned.

I figure I'd rather be under weight and have the strap break then not enough give and do damage to someone's vehicle.

I have a 30' Yoke strap, a 20' chain with chain hooks on both ends and a short chain with chain hooks on both ends. Never needed more than my Ball hitch to connect to. knock on wood, I never needed it but I've helped many others out.
