I’ve heard that theory. The existence of the grab handle in the earlier models and Toyotas selling the parts to add it as well as not doing a recall for removal of the existing ones causes me to doubt this is true. Any NHTSA documents available?

True. But I’m trying to be polite. Didn’t want to say that was bullshit, cause he sounds like a good guy.

Still in the middle of a seat cover install and popped the back seat to put the rear one on and do this mod at the same time. Heck, might just leave it like this for my labs!

I have a 2018 Tundra 4x king cab and I want to have the back wall seats come forward for storage. so I am DIYer and I am struggling with this one. There are no videos on what you guys are actually talking about, only pics and descriptions and I am a visual guy, so can someone show me what you have to do to get them to come forward? do you have to completely remove the seat bolts on the bottom to get to something in the back you need to grind or modify? I am for sure going to make a video when I am done understanding this.

Reference @joonbug ’s reply #20 in this post. He does a good job of describing this mod throughout this post.

And the linked thread in post no. 1 is helpful as well.

Hey, thanks, I really had not seen #20 as I was at #125, and I guess I jumped in the middle. I am sure this will come out when I do the mod, but I got some questions. It appears that you have to remove all floorboard seat bolts to get the hooks..right? Once you have ground or bent the hooks, what keeps the seat locked for kids and passengers?? cheers!

Do you have a double cab or a crewmax?
Toyota doesn't make a king cab.

When one releases the handle to move the double cab seat bottom up, the back will lift and go back down.
When it lifts, after the mod is done, pull it forward and it will clear the hook on the back wall and you can pull the seat back forward.
When you put the seat botttom back down, you make sure the seat back is pressed against the back wall, and it will sit back down into the wall hooks.

Hello, thank you for responding earlier and i have another important question about my 2018 crewcab back seats.
i have not removed the seats as I want to understand that if your cutting part of the back holder so you can fold the back seats down, then how do you put them back against the wall securely so they are safe in an accident or just transportation of people and baby seats?

Your crew cab is what Toyota call the CrewMax. This modification will not work. It only works with DoubleCabs.
