Not trying to be that guy....but I will be that guy.

What happens after some hard hits and abuse, not asking in terms of the skid, asking in terms of the 2 studs being used as mounting points. How much abuse will those take before bending/shearing or brraking the diff seal and leakikg fluid?

I have the same concern. Haven’t seen one that uses these bolts to mount. All have been “straps” around the axle.

    Thanks for the update.
I echo 14burrito and csuviper concerns. Seems like the mounting point will be a weak spot. My worry is if you hit the skid hard enough would the bolts snap off leading to a diff issue?
I like the design in post #56 of this thread. It wraps around the diff and 3rd member spreading the load out.

Yeah that's a valid concern. I can only imagine the hits it would take to shear those bolts off. But yeah that would worry me too after a good hit. Either way, taking those kind of hits with or without the skid is going to F shit up.

If going with the bolt on route I would suggest 4 bolts instead of two on the diff. Also must bolt up or ubolt to the front side of the diff where driveline attaches.

The more you wrap the skid around the diff from the bottom the harder it's going to be to get in there and get it on the bolts lol. There is a third TBD attachment point towards the front noted in the design specs.

Was in Sedona last week so I'm just trying to catch up with everything. I'll connect with him and see what he says

There was an issue with fasteners sticking out on the gas tank skid. I find it hard to believe they didn't fix that.

RCI's two locations are only about 45 minutes to an hour away from me. Front skid is next on list after SPC's. I plan on making the short trip for a shop tour soon. I'll see for myself up close!

I had a local fab shop "fix" mine, but let us know if RCI has changed their design.

Yeah...you shouldn't have to fix something to make them work right. I believe T-Rexx has the gas tank skid.

Here is the latest gas tank skid pick on RCI's site just now. Front fasteners are recessed. No longer protruding................[IMG]Looks pretty much fixed to me. Kind of thought so. Too many previous complaints to not do it..

??????? You lost me on that one.

Never mind. I know what you are referring to. Not sure about that. RCI only mentions the 26 gal skid plate.
    • " Smooth, flat surface that easily slides over obstacles. No exposed bolt heads on skid plates on 26g fuel skidplate"

Yeah the bigger gas tank guys like @Vizsla @GodlessPro @froggy78 are looking for a solution or some type of fix for the exposed bolts showing on there skid.
With the tank hanging pretty low/long wheel base they are really prone to get dragged/hung up at some times. With the exposed bolts the fear of them shearing off and potentially causing more damage was somewhere along the lines of the big tank skid concern.

Edit: @GodlessPro fixes his from a local shop. Skid on top of a skid type of thang

I get it now..Wonder why RCI thought that would fly to begin with on the big tank skids??

This is what my RCI gas skid for the 38 gallon tank looks like.

RCI has not updated the 38 gallon gas skid. The bolts stick out. I spoke to someone at rci a few months ago and I told them I was disappointed at the design. I also informed them that their site states no protruding bolts. They said that’s the description for the 26 gallon tank.

Yeah...that's unsat. The bolts need to be recessed. Dang I didn't realize the issue was with you guys' large tank skids. You would think maybe "carriage bolts" could work??? Probably too hard to get to in some places.
