I was checking to see how my rear right inner seal was doing after changing it just a 1000 miles ago. I pulled the ABS sensor to look and there were some oil on the abs gear. So I decided to pull it and take a look and change the inner seal. After pulling the seal, I noticed that the collar had a notch on of the openings. See the pic. Is this a normal notch? Can this be the cause of the gear oil leaking into the ABS gear? I checked the rear left side and didn't see the same notch. Just seeing if anyone has any info. Thanks

Check my build page for pics of both sides. Curious if you used Toyota Seals, as you said you’ve only 1k miles on the right side but put another new one in?

I don't think it is. Did you do anything to the axle itself?

I didn't do anything to the axle housing. Didn't notice that notch until now.

Regarding the seal. I had purchase a Nachi bearing kit and it came with the old version of the seal. Toyota had a TSB on it and made a new one. I had install the old version and wasn't sure if it will hold up. This was why I was checking on it. The new seal that I put on, was purchased from Toyota. How can I find your build page?

Does the seal you got from Toyota have that metal spring ring thing? Not exactly the same spot as yours, but I had a bearing failure that created a few nicks in my axle housing. Pieces of the bearing cage were chewed up by the ABS rotor. I sanded them down then religiously used a magnet and brake cleaner to clean it up.

A non-issue. It's behind the seal and sealing surfaces.
