Yea, I'd prefer to have them mounted closer to the bumper itself and maybe not make the carrier/basket out of tube. Other than that, it looks awesome.

    None, yet....
That's some deifinite commitment to chopping our bed sides, but it's probably one of the most high clearance ones I've seen.

Anyone know if the side kick outs are tied into the frame?

Kind of hard to see, but it looks like there are two tubes supporting the kickout that tie into the piece mounting to the frame. In between the two tubes you can see the upper
    shackle bolt.

That is almost exactly what I want. I'd just want the hitch moved up to improve DA.

Bilstein 6112's / 5100's. Smittybilt M1 rear bumper with LEDs. TRD Pro grill.
I went with a Smittybilt M1 for the rear. Found it on Amazon for $790. Too hard to pass up. Had the M1's on my 2015. The new versions come with led's. For me anything over $1500 is way too high.

Yea, I just found out that shipping on a Pelfreybilt would be about $300-350...and I'm only a couple states away. That puts it at around $1750. Maybe if it had a dual swing outs, but otherwise I think that might be too steep.

I'll have to see about contacting some fabricators in Utah and Colorado.

that is crazy high for a rear bumper, i got my cbi offroad rear for my tacoma for like $750 shipped and that thing was bomb proof.
i am sure they would make one for a tundra with anything you want.

i think that go rhino one looks good for a rear bumper also, they are pretty cheap. i am going to get something for the back at some point. i am going to leave the front alone. i had a cbi front my tacoma, it was sweet, but i am gonna keep the weight down on the tundra.

It's a great looking bumper. I'll have to check out your pictures again. I just don't know if I'm willing to drop that much $ on a bumper. I'm in Utah, so I'm guessing I'd get hit with sales tax, putting the total cost around $2600...and that's without any add-ons besides powder coat. I was almost set on a similar one by P&P, but the lines are not as good as the Expedition One...and they suck at communicating.

Expedition One ALL THE WAY.... those swing outs are sick! The spare on the rear looks SO good....... If you aren't going to wheel or overland with it I'd say just get the fab 4 and save the extra coin just my opinion:dancingbacon:

Love my Expedition One front bumper. If they would have done just a little custom work on the rear for me I would have an EXPO rear also not a Fab Fours.

you don't have to get the swing outs if you don't need them. that will save you a little.

just hit the build link in the signature but if you're feeling particularly lazy this morning... here.

Would you have to fish-plate the rear frame area to handle the added weight of a heavy steel bumper with swing out and spare tire? I know the 1st gen Taco frames were prone to bending right above the rear axle where the frame went from boxed to C-frame, so we’d fish-plate them using plates from DeMello when adding heavy bumpers like that. When I welded mine on, I remember the Taco frame being relatively thin and having to be careful not to blow through the frame. I know I looked at the Tundra frame before, but it’s been so long ago I had forgotten whether it’s boxed, C-channel or how thick it was. I do remember it being thinner than the frame on a full-size Ford Bronco, though. Anyway, just thought I’d ask about frame strength since I, too, am considering a rear bumper for some time in the future.

Post number 60 in this thread includes pics of a bent frame from a rear end collision:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/rear-ended-new-bumper-search-starts.18925/page-2#post-439001

Looks like C-channel back there in the pics. If I were to fish-plate it, I guess I’d have to move that bracket that’s in the way and look out for any wiring along the inside of the frame depending on how long you design the plate. Again, just some more to think about, especially with the added weight and fulcrum effect of a tire/rim combo sticking further back on the swing carrier.

I believe you are correct. I want to say the front end of the Tundra frame is boxed, rear is C-channel like shown in your post.

Yeah, I confirmed the C-channel from in front of the rear axle to the back. Also lots of bracketry in the way, making fish-plating more challenging if not impractical.

Man... I wish Pelfrey would do a built-in raised hitch, or at least include a cutout for the newly released Westin hitch for those of us that are actually wheeling our trucks and catching that thing on everything.

Although I still REALLY dig the bumper on the black pearl. It might just be time for a tube bender.

We will likely do some of these type in the future. The demand just hasnt gotten high enough, even if every single person in this thread who is wanting one, bought one, and everyone wouldnt, some people wouldnt wait, some people would find better deals, etc. IT still would not cover the costs of even designing and building the jig, if it did, it wouldnt produce much profit. If we were a custom shop maybe, and if there was more interest definitely.

I completely understand it has to make business sense. I really really dig the bumper, so hopefully you guys aren’t taking it the wrong way.

Like I said though, high clearance options are def in need for some of us. I’m still considering ordering your bumper and fab something to work. I just hate to spend the money, only to have to do the work myself.

Has anyone bought a bumper from p&p? Looking at their pictures they have on their website... their welds look like chicken shit. Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

I vote Pelfreybilt all day! Sure no raised hitch but the hitch can take a beating all day and still do it’s job. For me atleast that’s not a concern, and I’ve dragged my hitch many times.

No we dont take offense, we know we cant hit everyone, thats why there are many different fab companies out there. We still try though haha

That was our thought and most of our customer base has been dudes who just want a stronger bumper but dont necessarily wheel. I know some do but thats not really the big truck market.
